We're looking for a new school for our very bright, awesome 8yo Aspie. His current school in the Washington DC area has been wonderful, but it runs out after 2nd grade. I feel like I know the options in this area pretty well but no one around here knows anything about options elsewhere. We have the flexibility to move, if we found something great. The perfect school would have small classes, compassionate teachers who like spectrum kids and create a supportive environment, a mixed/diverse student population so we could send our other (mostly NT) kid too, and the ability to do rigorous academics for a kid who can handle them.

Anybody out there think they have found a great school environment for upper elementary?

The Summit School, in NYC (where I went) is rather strict as far as behavior is concerned--but was good academically.

I didn't like going to school--for the same reasons why most kids don't like going to school.

I would check this place out.

If you want a "nurturing" place, though--I'd avoid it.

But do your research. Maybe you'll come up with a different conclusion.
