Conservative aspie here.

I don't see why being left wing would necessarily go hand in hand with having Asperger's.

Your point is correct. It was a constitutional amendment passed during the Wilson administration that instigated the income tax.

However, that makes it legislatively possible to repeal that amendment. I didn't say probable, I said possible. I'd be all for repealing the 16th amendment and dismantling the IRS.

Yes it can be amended, but unless a better system than taxation is thought up to fund public services and/or government programs, I don't see how it would be a smart move to amend it in such a way there are no taxes. Chairity cannot provide unemployment benefits, health insurance, EBT, SSI/SSDI disbility...so that's not a viable alternative.

As for the IRS I don't care much for them, so I certainly would not be opposed to changing the way our tax system is set up, but eliminating taxation entirely seems like crazy talk unless they mean to remove the need for taxes via setting up a much more sustainable, cooperative society...but that would be like a communist utopia.

Ever notice how right wingers seem to be evangelical Christians too?

(For those not getting the sarcasm, a basic rule is not to discuss politics or religion. Noticing that religion was missing from this love fest, I wanted to inject some of that into the discussion. I am trolling).

I realize you were trolling, but is it actually trolling if what you say is true by design? An intersection or union *has* been formed between fairly unbridled capitalism, our (money driven) representative democracy, and (money driven) religion*. Roughly equal polarization can be very, very profitable.

*recognizing that those on the right perceive things like socialism, atheism & science as a type of "religion".

The only thing that can repeal a constitutional amendment is another constitutional amendment. In all of our history, it's happened exactly once. Prohibition was started with one, and ended when another repealed it.

An amendment needs to be ratified by 36 states (3/4ths of them) in addition to Congressional approval.

It is not so much the taxation I object to. How else is the government going to pay for infrastructure and the common defense? It's the idea that I'm being taxed merely to "distribute the wealth" to those who haven't earned it, and who could earn if they got off their lazy butts and got jobs.

No, I am not talking about people who are simply unable to work due to emotional, mental, or physical handicaps. Those people deserve our support.

I'm talking about people like my ex-brother-in-law, who is fully capable of working for his living; but who looks for work only when he runs out his welcome on someone else's couch. He has never sought treatment for his 'bad back'; yet he dances, surfs, and runs marathons as well as anyone else.

Just wondering. I have AS and I couldn't possibly view the world through right wing spectacles. Having said that, I was brought up by staunch Guardian readers (left wing newspaper in the UK) so perhaps it's more to do with my upbringing. I am also an atheist and have difficulty with the concept of God. Again, I wonder if this is just me or if it is a common trait amongst Aspies.

A penny for your thoughts... :D

I have diagnosed Aspergers Syndrome.

I am a Christian and also Right-wing.

I am in no way an extremist on any account, but I hold very strong views in both areas.

Surprisingly, I also have some Socialist views that make me a bit unpopular amongst "true" Conservatives. Note: From the ages of 14-29 I was a radicalized Atheist-Communist, so that, taken into consideration, proves... things can change.

Well, I bet the amount of wealth "redistributed" to those who abuse the system is far far less than that wasted in other ways. Plus, the people us hated "liberals" complain of gobbling up and hoarding money are far far wealthier than someone like you. These are people who make so much money on capital gains they don't even have to work at all. There are people who make millions off the stock market alone and contribute almost nothing.

Those wealthy people likely did not get that way off my tax dollar; but by gaming the tax system to their advantage - two different things. If they are wealthier than I, then so be it. I "gamed" the educational system by taking advantage of merit scholarships and by forgoing a social life in favor of studying STEM courses, rather than looking for grant money to pay for beer and Liberal Arts courses instead.
