Up to twenty people shot at a building that treats people with developmental disabilities.
Please let the shooter not have autism. Please oh please.

All we can do at this point is say, our thoughts, hopes, and prayers are with the victims and their families.

There are reports that it was three shooters (in battle fatigues) entering the place. That implies that its another Mumbai/Paris type of terrorist act (so autism wont come up as an issue). But in the panic of the events witnesses can get things wrong. Might be one lone gunman (autistic, or otherwise).

Also, as sad as this is, this tragedy will probably bring sympathetic attention to autistic people. It sounds like the center was source of employment, services, and recreation for both disabled and nondisabled people in the community, but I kept hearing the locals refer to it as an "autism center." Here we have an autistic community targeted for a mass shooting. This will upset people.

i'm upset about the fact that nbc let wheel of fortune air...but then preempted jeopardy.

why do they have to preempt shows...and then they are just gonna talk about it again during the "regular" news hours?

FWIW, local affiliates are required by their respective networks to brake away from syndication when a major emergency arises per contract. Your local NBC station likely had no choice but to join the network for special coverage. I've worked at CBS, NBC and Fox affiliates where that was always the protocol, even pryor to 9/11. I would suggest contacting your local affiliate and asking them when they'll air Jeopardy in a make-up slot as they're supposed to do out of respect to advertisers and so forth.

I've read that Reagan said a prayer for Hinckley. Now, this may be hype about Reagan and there certainly is hype about him. And we don't necessarily need to follow his example.

Even if we don't want to pray for the two shooters, we might want to consider praying for their families, for they didn't ask for this.

PS And I should point out that although I like the Lord's prayer and appreciate spirituality, I myself am an atheist / agnostic. I mean, for starters, a lot of different churches teach a lot of different things. I merely point out the above claim about Reagan for your consideration.
