I have always known that my family of origin has a unique sense of humor, full of irony and just delight in seeing an absurdity of fact or thought or speech. When we get together there is a lot of laughter. I share this with my daughter, too. My husband, too, laughs a lot with me, we joke back and forth.

But I know that sometimes my humor does not work at the office, so I mostly squelch it there. Once in a while if I have a choice bit of irony, I'll share it and get a chuckle.

So it's really with family I can most share my sense of humor. Do you find this, as well?

I've been told by many that I have a very dry sense of humour.

Practical joker from the time I was a child.
Played pranks all through college,
April Fools Day was a huge thing.

That's a major reason why I identify myself as
the mischievous Q. :D

Jake I love dry humor, that's the best. Even if you're tuned into it, you sometimes don't realize there was a joke until moments later.

Phoenix, I hate having pranks pulled on me (hate being "pranked") - it disrupts my equanimity, and believe me, my equanimity is hard won.

Always been told that I have an odd sense of humor and seem to laugh at some things that seem to be at odds with other people's perceptions of the moment.

I see a lot of dry humor on WP. It is also prevalent in my own immediate family.

Here's a for-instance: you see someone slip and fall on ice.

I have never understood how anyone can laugh at that. It's a little too 3 Stooges for me.

I'd rush to help them (but would laugh if I then fell in my clumsy haste to be of assistance). When I see someone fall, I flinch or jump. Laughing just doesn't happen, unless it is at my own ineptitude.

Big fan of dry or wry humour myself. Not much for slapstick.

Dry, quick, sarcastic and on occasion very morbid. Also, painful puns are gold, and double-entendres (especially dirty ones) are great.

Also, I have a thing where my co-workers know what I'm probably thinking about what they just said, so I can just give them a look and they fill in the blanks themselves and break out laughing. Word-efficiency!

I've got that dry, gallows humor myself and to a degree it's something my family shares along with the rampant sarcasm.

I have a weird sense of humour.

I'm not good at sarcasm, but I love inside jokes, and absurdity.

Lots of slapstick and dry humor in my family and my husband's. We always thought my little brother in law was a master at dry humor until he once admitted to us that he didn't "get" humor and was constantly enraged at people laughing at him.

Unfortunately, this was hilarious to my husband and I and we laughed until we cried.

It has been a struggle in the years since to suppress our laughter around him.

But yes, I would say there is a distinctive brand that is similar in most aspies.

I try to keep a sense of humor about myself. Mostly, I find absurd impossible statements very funny. Those things don't always go over well. Some people takes themselves too seriously and my humor fall flat like a bad souffle.

Just trying to imagine Murphy's mother in law :)
