Best hot dogs I ever had were back when I was in school. The short order cook (who we affectionately named, "Elvis") would split them and cook them on the griddle alongside a sourdough sandwich roll; the dog was then served flat on the roll like any other sandwich he made. Something a bit like this:

Clearly, a sandwich.

There used to be this great blog called "Sandwich Monday" run by the NPR team that makes the show Wait Wait Don't Tell Me; check it out. In their opinion, a hot dog is a sandwich if it's served in any starchy covering (bun, cornmeal, &c).

Would a corn-dog be considered a sandwich :?: I may eat those tomorrow

I don't even really know what a corn dog is. I remember they served them at lunch in elementary school. They smelled awful. I am such a food snob

Haha, I would probably vomit. Don't know why, but fried American foods make me ill. I don't even really like sandwiches, either.

But I do like ice cream sandwiches! I think they count. Maybe?

Nooo...not hot dog flavored. Hot dogs don't even count as actual food. They're like by-products of actual food.

Someone who worked in a butcher shop once told me all the things they sneak into the sausages. I can only imagine what they manage to sneak into hot dogs. Maybe actual dogs. Or dog food.
