Should it be considered acceptable for men to carry purses?

Men have to use a backpack or a briefcase... In fact there was a guy at my school who used a briefcase and would hold it over his shoulder as to not strain his arm too much...

I always use my trusty Puma backpack. Cheap, light, plenty of space. I'm a practical person. Aesthetics come second for me. It frustrates me when people compromise on either for little reason though. Yeah a briefcase looks nicer but your arms start to hurt after a while. Backpacks are usually cheaper and just better. Oh well.

I now carry one of two nice leather bags wherever I go now, for the simple reason that my mobile phone is too large to fit in my pocket. Also for health reasons related to radiation, mobile phones shouldn't be kept in pockets. Only problem I have is losing my bag at cafes and restaurants when I leave.

I used to have to carry a computer travel bag for work when I traveled. It became a habit in restaurants, airports and the like to simply put my foot through the shoulder strap whenever I sat down and put the bag on the ground. Maybe something like that would work for you?

Then again, even now I keep my phone in a camera case that fits it and has a belt loop. The belt loop has a carabiner that I clip my keyring(s) to. And then when I get to work, I clip my phone to my laptop case. And so on, throughout my day. Sounds goofy, but I haven't lost a phone since I started doing it.

me neither :D :D

When I hear or see people say things like this, I wonder if they realize the underpinnings of the social custom they're following and promoting (perhaps blindly or not-intentionally). Why would it be terrible - so much so that death would be better - for a man to be seen as having a single attribute in common with women *unless* you believe that men are inherently better than women?

I don't carry a purse, but don't see anything wrong with men carrying purses. They are convenient for carrying extra stuff.

Practically speaking, a rucksack or computer bag is more efficient and effective for "carrying extra stuff" than any purse.

Purses are mostly fashion statements. Women want to be fashionable. :: Women carry purses.

Backpacks are mostly practical items. Men want to be practical. :: Men carry backpacks.

I wouldn't be caught dead with a purse.

Use a small backpack if you have extra stuff to carry.

A bigger one if your loadout is going to include a laptop.

A guy carrying a purse is a magnet for ridicule or worse.

It's totally acceptable in some of the gay places I go from time to time. Seriously.. I mean, it would look a bit out of place if my drag queen friends were carrying backpacks slung over their shoulders. :P

Drag queens don't sling their backpacks over their shoulder; their backpacks have *wings*!

Apparently the costume structure that 'wings' (actual bird like or stylistic) attach to is called ...a "backpack".

I should've put that in the "I learned something new today" thread.

Why does anyone carry a purse rather than a back-pack or shoulder bag in the first place? To me the idea of carrying around a bag in my hand seems like a bad idea, for one I would likely forget it or lose it somewhere. Also the other sorts of bags leave your hands free whereas purses you have to carry or if it has a shoulder strap sort of hold onto it or adjust it every time it gets close to falling off.

If you have a penis, you don't need a purse.

Carry the man bags such as a small backpack, fanny pack.

See now, THAT's how you market a carry bag to men.

"Wallet, keys, Axe spray, condoms...keep all your manliness in your Scrotum (tm)"
