A tiny fly in my room zooming around my monitor. My first mosquito bite of the year. Lots and lots of May flowers everywhere. Baby bunnies. Nesting crows going berserk cawing and dive boming people (although I think they're done with that by now). I'm expecting to see caterpillars soon.

A storm and flood alert.
But at least it's green, not grey.

The Black Locust trees are coming into bloom in my neighborhood -- the last trees to flower -- and that's the sign that spring has come to an end. This weekend will bring this seasonal thread to its close, and unless the antipodeans want to open it up in October, we'll see you all again next year sometime around March. :flower:

It's that time of year again. :flower:

A Phoebe appeared yesterday in the local park. That's a major sign of spring for sure.

Daffodils have gone over, ornamental cherries are in blossom, my morello cherry is starting to open it’s blossom, the tulips look ready to flower by the end of next week.
Still pretty cold in the morning, but third one in a row without frost: and the little sparrows & tits are singing in the trees.
Think it’s definitely spring in the English Midlands. :D

Something (or somethings) has been putting out pollen for a couple weeks, pollen that I am allergic to.

A few days ago I rescued a worm that was busy drying out on the sidewalk while I was out walking my dog. First time I've seen any of them this year.

Heard a tree frog sometime last week, again for the first time this year.

Had a brief visit from something that looked like it was probably some sort of leafhopper while I was sitting on the park bench.

And of course, lots of other people out taking walks and doing yard work.

Ah yes and the crows/rooks participation in the dawn chorus, lol.
Being woken up early by a persistent Reed Bunting this week, tweeting loudly in the berberis below my window.

April is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.

(TS Eliot)

Oh, and Isabella is hiding indoors from the evening sun. It's a sure sign.

The Sounds of Birds Chirping

I remember how you would always
Wake up early in the morning
To the sounds of birds chirping
As though it were the only thing
That could calm your unsettling heart

One day, over coffee
You told me about the birds
And how you thought the whole idea was silly
I only nodded because I never had
A keen ear for the peaceful things in life

The conversation never came to my mind
Until that morning you left the world
I finally understood what you meant
When, for some odd reason I arose
And heard the sounds of birds chirping for the very first time

The chirping was a song of hope
A promise of sunshine after the rain
A reason not to give up
Determined to keep your head high
When the world is crashing down before your eyes

If you were still here, you would probably call yourself a failure
Since you never climbed that smooth, disgustingly perfect wall
That left you trapped in your turmoil
But you're not a failure, you made it
Your soul grew wings, and like a bird, you flew away from
All the problems that weighed down your heart
