Check out the various types here:
http://www.ahapoetry.com/haiku.htm#comego

And here are some of mine:

Sapling tree bends back
from the power of the wind
bowing, not breaking

Sapling tree droops limbs
Burning sun sucks energy
Limbs resting, not dead

Sapling tree beaten
by hard rains and hail
Winces and sprouts again

Sapling tree planted
in the wrong spot for good health
Free to a good home

Home: Delicate limbs
are protected from harshness
Who is gardener?

What is gardener?
One who takes the time to see
to care and to help

Not too much pruning
No forcing of limbs into
unusual states

Learning the nature
of this tree takes much practice
It can be worth it

Otherwise it's best
to leave me potted alone
barely surviving

Since abandonment
on the side of the roadway
would kill me for sure

======

Hah! You. Were. Jealous!
Why? When it's you I adore
I cannot tell you.

Why do I hate thee?
It is not hate at all, love...
Insecurities

Please believe in me
I flail about on the floor
Tantrum. Just hold me.

I have decided
to give my heart-song to you
Too bad you don't know

I have but one wish
to be lost and found with you
How I love your arms.

I know most women
seem to know what to do
I don't. I'll just watch.

You don't see me, right?
If I laid at your feet now
You'd just step over.

I'd go there, just once.
Corner sitting in darkness.
Just to see you close.

SLAP! SLAP! SLAP! SLAP! SLAP!
"Snap out of it now, woman!"
Obsession denied.

I have fantasy.
It's there you are mine. All mine.
Delightful dreaming.

I thought I'd spew forth
things I've held inside too long.
To whom do I speak?

It might be just love.
The joy of love. Of loving.
I desire his skin.

Five senses I have
To devote for a lifetime
I want to love you.

Surely I'll regret
confessions in the morning...
but less than silence.

Doesn't know it's him
He doesn't come here at all
I'll just hold myself.

Too many Haiku!
Is okay. I should not mind.
Haiku for no one.

======

The lavender rose
alluring visual treat
beware of the thorns

Who is to say what...
Is the dream or is for real...
Do not wake me up

Happy Holidays:
They are not happy, holy,
Just another day

Cracked pavement, weed sprouts,
Recovers from many feet
Behold it's beauty

Oil-slicked gutter rain
Makes for an ever-changing
rainbow in the filth

Ripped, torn, shredded, lost,
Stained and damaged they come here
The Laundry Graveyard

I think I found it!
I see it in your dark eyes...
What was I saying?

The depths of hatred
kill, maim, divide, separate
while love sadly cries

If I could show you
I swear, I would, I promise
Please open your eyes

Tree leaves leave trees bare
broken souls in disrepair
spring buds, summer pears

blown about is the grass
lays flat, looks dead, dry, gone
deep roots bring it back

i don't mind your hate
what you see in me is what
you fear to admit

look at them hurry
umbrellas to hide themselves
I walk and am drenched

winter's bitter cold
summer's dreamy days, warm nights
who do you choose now?

Festive lights covered
all homes but one, three lights there,
it's better than none

This year for Christmas
I haven't a tree, nor lights
no friends, family, no fights

Dawn surprised the clouds
and they blushed their "Good Morning"
making way for the blue sky

Can I talk Haiku?
Would that be less offensive?
Can you hate poets?

======

For a friend who didn't want to write Haiku:

rendall hates constraint
he doesn't realize how free
a few words can be

you can be yourself
bring out all the hidden parts
deny their meaning

"It was about trees"
Rendall said. Nothing deep. No meaning there.
While his spirit hopes

Inside all of us
Is some kind of deep yearning
Oft pushed down in fear

Fear of rejection
Fear of loving acceptance
Fear of ridicule

Only the bravest
will risk it all for a chance
at a dream come true

Someone eventually
will understand me, and you
celebrate that day

It will only come
if again effort is made
to reach beyond self

From home I do this
Because I'm not so much like you
Are we opposites?

Only through sharing
can we ever hope to see
Fighting leads nowhere

Poems for Rendall
They might not inspire awe
In fact they might suck

But they are a gift
that I have given freely
not under duress

In case it's awhile
since a woman has written poems
just for you Rendall

You can now have these
leave out the part admitting
that you don't know me

;-)

======

For someone who hates me:

In this you find hate?
Is there NOTHING that pleases?
Except in your group?

What is it you want?
Should we put it to a vote?
Glass houses shatter.

Who knew that Haiku
could be used as a weapon
Leave it up to you

Positivity
You encouraged it before
I'm trying. You mock.

I gave you Haikus
not addressed to you by name
Hatred shortens sight

I thought it would be
smart people would see truly
but they're just people

as blind as stubborn
not accepting of difference
Witch! Burn her! BURRRRRRNNNN HERRRR!

======

I love 5-7-5 Haiku. It comes easy to me. How about you? I find the constraints to be comforting.

Here's my favorite haiku:

That looks just like Wayne's basement
Only that's not Wayne's basement
Isn't that weird?

Pink sky up above
And red sand between my toes
It's Martian Haiku

Yay! Participation! I hope this thread and the Fibonacci ones keep growing! The poetry is fun to do. These two kinds don't need to rhyme. They aren't long. Do one, or do several.

I not sure if reviving a thread last posted to 3 years ago is ok, but if it is not just tell me.

One of my favorite things in life is Writing -especially poetry, and particularly Haiku.

So here goes.

Hear our faces close
See our old silences bleed
Have we stopped yelling?
---
Moonbeams over life
Life clinging to a birchbranch
Transition means pain
---
Our faces close up
Our dead silences bleed through
Are we done howling?
---
Looking at your face
Hearing the silence running
Have we stopped screaming?
---

Rain drops falling down on the window
Brown leaves rustling in the wet wind
Waiting for Spring to return
