I need one because I'm not a very good swimmer and I weigh over 200 lbs.

Probably not, one of those wet-suits would probably work fine....I went snorkeling in the ocean in California once and if anything it was hard to dive under and stay submerged wearing that. That was also salt water though, might be easier to sink in fresh water.

Though if all else fails I know how to float on my back in the water, it doesn't take a lot of effort either.

I cannot swim good, but I can swim well enough that I wouldn't be afraid I'll immediately start drowning and have to have someone dive in to get me. I can essentially 'doggy paddle' seems to be what everyone calls it or I can go underwater and use my arms and legs to swim which is faster than the doggy paddle but involves submerging myself in water which requires holding breath.

I took swimming lessons as a kid & we had an above ground pool that we used for a few years. It's been like 10 or more years sense I swam thou & I never was a great swimmer but I think I could mange well enough.

Nope. I can swim.

But if I ever plan only to relax, I might wear one.
