Can I rule out Aspergers based on this online test result?

I have some of the characteristic symptoms (e.g. obsession with minutiae, flat effect, poor effective empathy, I suspect that there's a chasm between my spatial and verbal iq scores, etc.), but my result on the rdos online test seems to deviate drastically from the scores of the self-professed Aspies on here (there was a ten page thread here where people posted their scores and every single AS person had a high neurodiverse score that placed them squarely in the balanced or neurodiverse range).

"Your neurodiverse (Aspie) score: 68 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 149 of 200
You are very likely neurotypical"

I don't think anything can be diagnosed or ruled out going only on an online test. If you want it truly ruled out, try consulting an expert or medical professional. If that's not possible (cost can be prohibitive) you can make a decision as to what you believe based on online testing, but online testing can be influenced and is not necessarily an objective representation of what's really going on.

I agree with invisibleboy. I would not rule it out based on an online assessment. It is very easy to be biased one way or another when you are basically assessing yourself. Have you tried taking the online RAAD-R? (Ritvo Autism Asperger Diagnostic Revised). Sometimes we need somebody looking from the outside in...

I assume you have read up on the autism spectrum? What do you think fits and doesn't fit for you? That's what I would say is the best place to concentrate.

I would actually say that getting an expert's opinion is about as accurate as an online test. Sometimes great and sometimes not. It depends on what kind of expert you're able to find and how educated they really are.

Traits which fit me (mentioned most of these earlier):

-Myopia/Limited range of interests
-Poor effective empathy
-Flat effect/stilted speech
-Possible chasm between spatial and verbal abilities
-Solipsistic conversational patterns
-Occasionally have trouble following tv shows or films
-Poor body coordination

Traits that don't fit me:

-Most of the sensory quirks
-Repetitive physical movements
-Obliviousness to inflectional nuances (i.e. taking things literally).

Did you have these traits when you were a very young child?

Truthfully, unless I met you in person, I wouldn't have any idea whether you are autistic or not.

Your preoccupation with the subject could be indicative of you being on the Spectrum.

Read up on Broad Autism Phenotype. This might provide you with some answers.

Take other autism tests like the AQ one and see how you score. There is also some other autism test but I forget the name of it. Also try taking the RDOS test again answering questions from when you were a child and see how high your score is. If you still score low, you could just have autistic traits and not be on the spectrum. Do you feel any impairments in any sort of way like are you struggling in school or with life and trying to get employed or with employment, etc?

Not every kid in my special needs school has autism. Some have things like fetal alcohol syndrome. But we all pretty much relate to each other. We are all in the same ballpark.

What other disabilities are there in your school and what kind of school is it?

It's a private significant special needs school. Most of us have autism; aspergers, classic (some with id), pdd etc. But I know one kid who told me he has fas. Others I'm not sure about. Also there are those who have co-morbid things like dyspraxia and cerebral palsy.

Here's my rdos chart:

I'm not sure how to interpret this, considering the vast majority of the NT results I've seen have been nearly maxed out in the neurotypical communication, social, and relationship categories, like this one:

I don't find that many of these online tests mean all that much.

If you are still in school they may have staff that are qualified to rule it in or out.

My experience was taking the online ones then going to a clinician. 8)

I am NOT nor will I ever be a psychologist. I'm in graduate school for sociology with a specialty in autistic adults, but even when I'm a doctor in long years all that means I will be qualified to do is make observations. With that being said:

-Like Kraftie, I would like to know if these traits were present in your childhood
-Could you be depressed?
-Could you have post-traumatic stress disorder or some other disassociative disorder?
-Are you a member of a minority class or culture separated from other members of your class or culture?
