Thats probably it.

The mortal wound to those sites is probably the younger generation and their smart phones.

Desk top computers will become a niche market for folks who need them for vocational and avocational use (like graphic arts, film, and audio editing). Everyone else is only go have a smartphone.

Do you think that the navigation issue is the reason why people left in the first place?

I used to frequate the partners board on Delphia, but the PITA part on the mobile just wasn't worth it.

Wrongplanet is almost (it has gotten better) not worth it on the mobile.

Facebook has a mobile phone app which makes groups so much more easier. You can post vids, photos and sound files. You can make the privacy from public to secret. It is just a better experience phone wise.

All my email lists are slowly dying. The people that are hanging on are 60 and up. Forums with threads are toast if they are hard to navigate and with stupid hoops you jump throw to post or log in.

The successful groups I know might have a token email list and the bulk is a Facebook group. I belong to a running group, and the majority of the conversations are on the Facebook page not the email list.

Active forums have taken a huge hit from Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. At least the things I am interested in.

Apparently, the mobile issue was a sidewise problem on Delphi forums. So, it's not only these boards that suffered because of it. I've gotten a reply from Gerry to say that the administrators of Delphi forums introduced a new format about 2 years ago to try and address the issue.

Can I ask you a question? Would you be willing to have a quick browse on your mobile of some the the linked to forums in the new forums to see if its still as bad as it used to be or if it's better?

Is it the layout of this Delphi site that you liked or the people on it? If it's the people, you could just all move to one of the bigger sites, like here on Wrong Planet or Aspie Central. I ultimately prefer Wrong Planet (obviously) but there are other big forums that people can join together.

I used to be part of a forum for my neurological disease. The site slowly trickled down to me and a couple of old men, and then I left too. The last I heard the rest of the people went to FB, of which I am not a member. It's sad when that happens, but you can still stay in touch on new forums. In my case, I chose not to be a part of their new group because I hate facebook.

Actually, my main motivation is to try and create a new autistic community on Delphi since the old one seems to of fizzled out. I mean, there are still LGBT, feminism and other minority groups on there, so why should there not be an AS. Just that instead of creating new forums, I just thought of trying to take over the old ones, where most people have left and try to initially gather a few friends to post in them to slowly build up a community again. I only seriously thought about it when Gerry made this announcement, since I've been watching them and thought they looked like nice forums. So, I thought I'd try to rescue them. I also thought that perhaps finding the people who used to post in them might help with this as well.

Unfortunately, I joined Delphi forums much too late to of been part of that community in it's prime.

So, what did you think of the other forums?

I guess I just killed the thread with this post. What I meant to say with this is that I'm trying to see if it's possible to rebuild the community there by attracting new people there if we can't the old ones to go back, and try to get it back to what it was before. Kind of like what Gerry said he was trying to do but apparently failed. The forums would still serve the same purpose as before, just with new members. Seriously, how did you want me to answer that question? Though I lurked there for a long time I wasn't a member when that community was still active, so I can't really say that I liked the people there.

The last person who was a member of the Asperger Adults forum was the only one there and who greeted me when I signed up and introduced myself 2 years ago. He last logged in a few months ago and apparently left to join another forum called AsperClick. The point is, I can still see a need for specialised groups like that because in my experience, not everyone's needs are met on WP. For example, the L & D sub-forum on WrongPlanet is filled with young aspies asking for tips on how to flirt and wanting to how to get a girlfriend/boyfriend but NT's (or even aspies, in relationships with NT's) wanting to know how to maintain a relationship with an aspie tend to get drowned out in there (often people don't even respond), while AS Relationships that Work and AS and their Partners forums are specifically set up for that. The Asperger Adults forum is also good for meeting and making friends with other adults with AS and have similar issues that you may not necessarily get here. You can just have groups that are more specialised than a general forum like this one, though there are those too.

I also just don't like seeing seeing whole communities like that just dying and disappearing, so if it were possible to revive it with new members then it's worth it.

I guess if people don't want to and already think that they've got everything they need then there's no point. There's currently a similar community active on Reddit but I'm sure that not everyone likes going there.
