How DID the hometown of the Beatles get its name?

Many towns in England have names that end in "pool". Like "Blackpool". Blackpool must have been named after a dark colored lake in the area when the town was founded. Liverpool must have been named after a liver shaped? lake?, or a muddly reddish brown lake with water that look like raw liver?

That's meant as a real question. Not a dumb one. Even if it IS a dumb question! Lol!
