So finding out about my AS at age 28 explained a lot of things, but I find no comfort in it. My life is in tatters on all fronts and I don't know how to proceed forward, where to begin and what I should be doing.

How to live a life? How to live a life with AS?

I suggest the most helpful stage after learning you are on the spectrum is learning about it, and many of us here started the secondary phase with Tony Attwood's book "The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome" which helped to kickstart the learning process in a comfortable and highly informative way. One step at a time..

You're the same person now as you've always been. The only differences is (1) you now have a name for the way you've always been, but (2) more importantly, you have knowledge and resources you've never had before. If you have access to psychologists, etc, meet with them. Use the internet, read books, learn as much as you can about it.
