Why would this be viewed as more unacceptable?

Recently my parents came back from a 1 week holiday in scilly. My mom said "the girls in scilly looked fabulous" .

This is quit interesting because if my dad said for example "the men in scilly looked very handsome" how come that would be viewed as much more weird compared to my moms comment?

Because, in this society, men who talk about "handsome" men are seen as being gay; whereas women who about pretty women are seen as being "normal."

Men are seen as not being as observant as women in this respect. Men who are "observant" in this sense are considered effeminate and possibly gay.

It's s shame really. If a man said this all his males mates would make fun of him for being effeminate. Although I have heard my brother and his mates saying to each other how they look Reem. He is a typical essex boy though and they tend to be more appreciative of effort put into apperance.

Yes, very strange. If I were you (and single) I'd have to go investigate this so-called 'Island of Fabulous Girls' myself.

General comments are okay, we know what is handsome or what's ugly. Specific comments about certain aspects such as hair are seen as being gay, unless you say "no homo" immediately after.
