I'll have to check out both bands. I can enjoy Metallica. There are times they use almost Classical guitar riffs, some almost Classical Spanish Guitar riffs. Nothing Else Matters is one of my favorites. Such dreamy music. I tend to hear the instruments separately. Do you do that Graelwyn? I can enjoy one particular part of a song if I like the way it was done for that instrument. I tend to remember it that way as well. I guess it's our predisposition to break things down into their parts.

So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
and nothing else matters

Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say
and nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
and nothing else matters

never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
but I know

So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
and nothing else matters

never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
but I know

Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us, something new
Open mind for a different view
and nothing else matters

never cared for what they say
never cared for games they play
never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
and I know

So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
No, nothing else matters

I always picture someone on a frozen pond ice skating to this. I have no idea why.

I adore that song...the only other one by them I particularly like is The Unforgiven...and the video that goes with it is very interesting. The lyrics, I suppose, are quite apt for Aspies as they appear to be about how we spend our lives trying to conform to what others expect us to be.

New blood joins this earth
And quickly he's subdued
Through constant pained disgrace
The young boy learns their rules

With time the child draws in
This whipping boy done wrong
Deprived of all his thoughts
The young man struggles on and on he's known
A vow unto his own
That never from this day
His will they'll take away

What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through what I've shown
Never be
Never see
Won't see what might have been

What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through what I've shown
Never free
Never me
So I dub thee unforgiven

They dedicate their lives
To running all of his
He tries to please them all
This bitter man he is
Throughout his life the same
He's battled constantly
This fight he cannot win
A tired man they see no longer cares
The old man then prepares
To die regretfully
That old man here is me

What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through what I've shown
Never be
Never see
Won't see what might have been

What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined doin what I've shown
Never free
Never me
So I dub thee unforgiven

You labeled me
I labeled you
So I dub thee unforgiven

Metallica RULES
here's some lyrics that describe where I am in life
------
Sitting on this barstool talking like a damn fool
Got the twelve o'clock news blues
And I've given up hope on the afternoon soaps
And a bottle of cold brew
Is it any wonder I'm not crazy? Is it any wonder I'm sane at all
Well I'm so tired of losing- I got nothing to do and all day to do it
I go out cruisin' but I've no place to go and all night to get there
Is it any wonder I'm not a criminal
Is it any wonder I'm not in jail
Is it any wonder I've got

Too much time on my hands, it's ticking away with my sanity
I've got too much time on my hands, it's hard to believe such a calamity
I've got too much time on my hands and it's ticking away from me
Too much time on my hands, too much time on my hands
Too much time on my hands

Well, I'm a jet fuel genius - I solve all the world's problems
Without even trying
I have dozens of friends and the fun never ends
That is, as long as I'm buying
Is it any wonder I'm not the president
(He's not the president) :P
Is it any wonder I'm null and void Is it any wonder I've got

Too much time on my hands, it's ticking away at my sanity
I've got too much time on my hands, it's hard to believe such a calamity
I've got too much time on my hands and it's ticking away from me
Too much time on my hands, too much time on my hands
Too much time on my hands

Absolutely and I was obsessed with that song when I was young! I would play it over and over. That lasted well into my twenties when dh got sick of hearing it. LOL I used to blast it and the Italians would stop in the piazza and look up at my apartment.

People are strange
and when you're a stranger
faces seem ugly
when you're alone

Women seem wicked
when you're unwanted
Streets are up
even when you're down.

When you're strange,
faces come out of the rain.
When you're strange,
no one remembers your name.
When you're strange.
When you're strange.
When you'rrrrrre strrrrange.

People are strange when you're a stranger
Faces look ugly when you're alone
Women seem wicked when you're unwanted
Streets are uneven when you're down

When you're strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you're strange
No one remembers your name
When you're strange
When you're strange
When you're strange

When you're strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you're strange
No one remembers your name
When you're strange
When you're strange
When you're strange

For me, one of the all time greats (Beside The Floyd, of course) is Tom Waits. I love playing his music for people who've never heard of him. Everyone always asks, is this a chap of colour? They always think it must be Louis Armstrong's brother. LOL ! !

Well it's hotter 'n blazes and all the long faces
there'll be no oasis for a dry local grazier
there'll be no refreshment for a thirsty jackaroo
from Melbourne to Adelaide on the overlander
with newfangled buffet cars and faster locomotives
the train stopped in Serviceton less and less often
There's nothing sadder than a town with no cheer
VicRail decided the canteen was no longer necessary
there no spirits, no bilgewater and 80 dry locals
and the high noon sun beats a hundred and four
there's a hummingbird trapped in a closed down shoe store

Oh, yeah, Tom Waits!

Have you gotten the latest Tom Waits, Prof?

The title's great: "Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers, & Bastards"

The first cd (it's a 3 cd set) is the best.

:P

I like this song it's kinda aspie-like :)

Lonely Stranger
by Eric Clapton

I must be invisible;
No one knows me.
I have crawled down dead-end streets
On my hands and knees.

I was born with a ragin' thirst,
A hunger to be free,
But I've learned through the years.
Don't encourage me.

'Cause I'm a lonely stranger here,
Well beyond my day.
And I don't know what's goin' on,
So I'll be on my way.

When I walk, stay behind;
Don't get close to me,
'Cause it's sure to end in tears,
So just let me be.

Some will say that I'm no good;
Maybe I agree.
Take a look then walk away.
That's all right with me.

I'm probably too young for this thread (only 27) but I like Pink Floyd, and have just punched the air on seeing those Ramones, Magazine & Clash songs posted here. Ben listening to the Rqmones anthology & Joey Ramones solo album quite a bit recently, other very aspie/autistic spectrum Ramones song are It's not my place in the 9-5 world, and their version of Tom Waits I Don't Wanna Grow Up (I connect with both of those songs). From the way people who knew/had met him describe him it quite possible that Joey was on the spectrum - I know he definitly had OCD.

I connected with the lyrics to Song from under the floorboard the first time I saw them posted somewhere - only heard it for the first time recently (great song).

Joe Strummer and The Clash are my current interest/obsession - love him/them.

from things I've read about him, and even some of the things he described about himself it sounds like he had autistic tendancies. I'm not saying he was actually on the spectrum but he definitly wasn't nurotypical anyway - for what ever reasons. Chris Salewitz (friend & biographer - in his book Redemption song) even describes him as being "wired differently to everybody else".

Lost In The Supermarket could be an aspie song - depression as the result of not fitting in with commercial society + disconnection with others.

If Jenna feels too young for this thread then I certainly should (18) but ah well.

My music tastes are generally punk, prog, and new wave but with a lot of other stuff thrown in.

Something I've just noticed actually, Bike by Pink Floyd sounds a bit like an aspie trying to chat someone up.

I've got a bike
You can ride it if you like
It's got a basket
A bell that rings
And things to make it look good
I'd give it to you if I could
But I borrowed it

You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world
I'll give you anything
Everything if you want things

I've got a cloak
It's a bit of a joke
There's a tear up the front
It's red and black
I've had it for months
If you think it could look good
Then I guess it should

You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world
I'll give you anything
Everything if you want things

I know a mouse
And he hasn't got a house
I don't know why
I call him Gerald
He's getting rather old
But he's a good mouse

You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world
I'll give you anything
Everything if you want things

I've got a clan of gingerbread men
Here a man
There a man
Lots of gingerbread men
Take a couple if you wish
They're on the dish

You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world
I'll give you anything
Everything if you want things

I know a room full of musical tunes
Some rhyme
Some ching
Most of them are clockwork
Let's go into the other room and make them work

The two aren't mutually exclusive, necessarily - my little sister is diagnosed as schizophrenic and autistic...
