I think the recent events in the UK have brought the worst out in everybody and I'm unfortunately saturated in an environment that I don't belong in, so no dates for me. You see, most people will just forget these events, like every tragedy" they change their profile pic for, and move on, even though they've been vile specimens. I unfortunately am cursed with remembering everyone behaving this way, and think it's only fair I consider that any potential date willing to reduce themselves in this manner will do so again in the future in the name of appealing to peers and self preservation as opposed to genuine self-developed principles.
Forgive them, they're just being human. You're not gonna tell me that you've never done those things before as well.

Sure, but these people behave this way whenever celebrities die, buildings get shot up, or whenever a topic is trendy on Facebook.

Epiphany moment!
maybe it's a Facebook problem, and their addiction to being liked and noticed through social media through means of pandering to opinion groups has leaked outward into the real world and enabled by those with the same problem. Or it's just like "They Live", "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", take your pick.

Maybe I need to find new networks and activity groups, mainly of people too busy to waste their time pretending to be interesting and nice on social media and down their chosen hangouts.

ShesGone, hugs all around!

I face similar problems, being politically out of step with my environment, but I've found that if I can simply avoid talking politics long enough for a connection to form, things tend to work out regardless. If anything, the girls I've dated have become a bit more libertarian and a bit more skeptical of party line liberalism just from my spending time with them, as my very existence seems to contradict parts of their ideology.

It is sad though that I have to be sheepish and half a person in order to interact with other people but hey.
And I never understand how groups of people are identified as something or other by default. Isn't that sort of stereotyping where bigotry comes from? :)

It seems to me that refusing to date a girl because she is a bit vain on FB is just as vain, that's just what I think. Of course, I mean if she doesn't exaggerate.

Don't take Brexit too seriously. I understand it was your first European Union, but there's plenty more unions out there. Maybe start something up with Trinidad and Tobego.

I wouldn't go that far, for me it's just been a simple matter of not talking politics until the person has gotten to know me a bit, much like how I introduce my autism. It's the difference between introducing myself as an autistic gun nut with weird politics and introducing myself as a professional chef who enjoys bowling and Tarantino movies; they're both true, but one causes people to make a lot less assumptions about me.

It's the same with Republicans here. Even secular Republicans like myself (though I am a practicing Lutheran) are treated as if we were far-right extremists.

If you are looking for someone who likes animated comedies and/or is the artsy type, you'd better be a Democrat. Most political conservatives think those things are as bad as porn.

Yeah this sort of identity politics confuses me. Political groups have staked claims on interests and sub cultures when in reality they in my mind should be mutually exclusive.

I'm guessing this is down to things like the sports world being dominated by Republican figures and the entertainment industry being dominated by Democrats.

So people will think I'm a walking contradiction even though my hobbies don't and shouldn't have anything to do with where I am on the political spectrum. Needless to say all the people who identify with my hobbies don't identify with my politics and being around these people is very awkward as they constantly pressure me to validate their opinions. As said before, these groups are pretty much the only ways I'm able to meet new women in real life short of approaching women on the street or using dating sites. I'm attempting dating sites but can't say I find them appealing.

I can't convince Democrats that I am not a bigot, but the only way Republicans will watch animated comedies and indie/art house stuff is if they have guns pointed at them.
