I'm not sure if this is in any way autism related, but does anyone here experience anxiety related peripheral hallucinations e.g. seeing cats that aren't there?
Why does this happen?

I have several theories:

(1) I'm batshit crazy.
(2) Anxiety has made me hyper-vigilant to the point where I'm imagining things and jumping at shadows.
(3) Some kind of pressure in the eye which causes spots to appear in the corners, which my brain then translates into cats.
(4) My cat is gaslighting me and possibly plotting my death.

I'm thinking it's most likely (2) but I wouldn't rule out (4).

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Probably #4 LOL

Cat's out of the bag!

Seriously.....I would think #2 is most likely.

I swear I wasn't even drinking last night and that's very unusual for me.

Maybe it was caused by alcohol withdrawal. 8O

What is alcohol psychosis?

I woke up about two years ago, confused, scared and institutionalized and I had no memories and I couldn't remember my name. They said this was caused by substance induced psychosis so this can cause some very, very serious problems. However, I don't know how much faith I put into that because I remember nothing the weeks prior to my hospitalization and there is some evidence that I was abused by medical staff. My medical records have me as John Doe and they seem incomplete when I ordered them. Plus my family said that I talked about electroconvulsive therapy when I was there and said I was scared of staff which I have no memory of and honestly it kinda looks more like they gave me electroconvulsive therapy against my will more then substance induced psychosis. However that is where I picked the term up and it could be what is happening to you. I would stop all drugs for a few weeks and see what happens.

I know now you feel, I too have hallucinations from time to time. I would say that for both of us the cause is (2).

Thanks, Austin.
It's nice to know that I'm not the only one experiencing this.
It's a bit freaky, isn't it?
I'm a bit freaked out.

I'm thinking maybe I should have done a poll for this and had people vote.

LOL

Well you have me reading my medical records now and thats always lol

"The patient is convinced he is picking up electric waves coming from the wall"

"The patient stated that he thinks he drinks and smoke marijuana but he is not sure"

If you think your crazy, I would like for you to beat that...

You know... It seems odd to me that I can stay out of the hospital until I get under someone's care and then they do the above to me... I don't ever recalling telling someone I was picking up electric waves from the wall, also according to what I am reading, they had me on six different drugs when they did this so called interview. How can you legally deem anyone sane on six different drugs?

Yeah I know I am bit off topic but basically I really wouldn't worry about it, if this is the kinda of stuff thats documented on me and if I can some what function throughout the day then you'll be fine.
