I notice that when many of my NT friends complain of a loud noise, they put on earbuds that plays music at an even louder level.

Anyone know the philosophy behind this?

I've done this on occasion as a last resort with misophonia - that music that I know doesn't set this off is better than enduring a noise that does set it off - cue someone on a train sitting next to me and proceeding to eat chips, and me having the option of either getting out of the carriage or stuffing earphones in that at least aren't making that noise.
Maybe neurotypical folks follow a similar idea?

Ok. Maybe they were more bothered by the nature of the noise than the volume of it, and the music sounded more pleasant.
