I like Rammstein's cover of the Depeche Mode song "Stripped"... though the first time I heard it (and not knowing what it was at the time), the beginning sounded like The Cookie Monster reading Leonard Cohen...

I prefer the Rammstein version, the voice of the Depeche Mode singer is too sweet.

Rammstein is sometimes funny to listen to because even though you know its in german you can sometimes mishear things in english.

I totally don't know what the song is about, and hell I can't understand half of what he says, but it's a great song.

I have both the German and English versions of the song. It loses something in translation, because in German the lyrics make a play on words.

"Du hast" = You have
"Du hasst" = You hate

Both are pronounced the same.

So:
"Du" = "You"
"Du hast" = could be either "You have" or "You hate"
"Du hasst mich" = "You hate me" or "You have me"

The next line is:
"Du hast mich gefragt" which means "You have asked me".

So they set it up as if they're saying "You hate me" then suddenly switch the meaning to "You have asked me".

I played it for my mom (who was born and raised in Germany) and she thought it was very funny (and clever).

The lyrics are a play on words on typical German wedding vows.

After two repeats of "Du hast mich gefragt" the next line is
"Du hast mich gefragt und ich hab nichts gesagt" which means "You have asked me and I have said nothing."

Also, The German Word 'Du' and 'Sie' translate to 'You' in English, however they must NOT be used interchangeably, as 'Du' is a more familial form for 'You', whilst 'Sie' is a more formal usage. Using 'Du' in a situation where 'Sie' is meant to be used, (With Strangers, buisness associates, etc, is patronising and or insulting.

The usage of 'You' and 'Thee' which corresponds exactly with the German usage of 'Du' and 'Sie' is now considered archaic form in English.

Actually german sounds good only in Rammstein's songs... regular german sounds like s**t :( ...they have such a beautiful language and they can't even use it... blaah... germans... some peeps have quite pretyty accent, but most of them... yuk... ;/

I remember I had my german teacher translate a song for me... and when we found out it was about something quite horrible (I believe the song was tier) I got detention.
