And now that Trump endorsed Ryan and McCain the "leadership" is back on board and Trump is once again acceptable to Gingrich.

The only people the Republicans have to blame for the rise of Trump are who they see in the mirror. They encouraged the growth of populist demagogues even prior to Trump, with the advent of the Tea Party, if not even before, mixing fundamentalist Christianity with racism, classism, rejection of science, and heartless Randian libertarianism. The GOP party heads thought they and their corporate masters could keep the rank-and-file occupied with their Tea Party rallies while the 1% absorbed all the more of the country's wealth. Well, those very people that the party heads had held in contempt have come to realize that all they've gotten for their years of loyalty is poorer. Now Trump is promising to let the lunatics run the asylum, playing up to all their fears of crime, of brown and black people overtaking the white race, and of a general sense of impotent hopelessness that only he can reverse. When people feel desperate, and that they have nothing to lose, they will follow that bloviating narcissist to hell, and and drag the rest of the GOP - and the country - with them.

I agree about the republicans. But the Dems should look in the mirror at the populist uprising they helped create that has Trump having a chance. They helped create this via economic policies with the Republicans that destroyed the middle class. Not only did they mess up the middle class especially the old white type, they endlessly mocked a lot of the people they put in that position as dumb and racist and just plain not worthy which makes sense as pure campagn strategy as America grows more diverse. Which lead to disagreement slipping into offensiveness. In the name of tolerance and diversity they helped create the "everybody gets a trophy" culture. They tolerate the SJW's they helped create for the same reasons Republicans tolorate racists, it is thier most motivated base.
It could explode in thier and all of our faces.
If Trump wins, they will keep on assuming that somehow he will finally say or do something that will doom him. Because the legislature is so weakened and ineffective he does what he wants and becomes an authoritarian leader by default. At that point it will be very difficult to recreate democracy.
Lets assume the conventional wisdom is correct, Trump really is imploding and taking the Republican Party down with him (or is doing this on purpose for the Clintons). Hillary wins in a landslide Dems take control of Congress. Having elected the lesser of two nightmares America is dispirited knowing nothing is going to change economically for them. Having to return the favor to Bernie and probably because she is left at heart she has to implement policies she knows are not wise. The left feels embolded having thier idea that opponents are not worthy and a dying breed seemingly validated in the most public way possible. They triple down on tearing apart free speech. The former Trump supporters can fume and conspiracy theory all they want, they will have no choice but to acquiesce as the government, the media, the internet are against them and most current or future employers will not hire them or fire them for any public "offensive" remark. Everything will be seemingly going great in SJW land ( probably the expression Social Justice Warrior will be shamed out of existence) until a smarter and more violent populist arrives.

I hate to break it to you, but this newfangled three-lettered acronym is an online phenomenon, so no one really knows who you're thinking of IRL, nor is there any coherent group under such a label. And, free speech is already enshrined in the constitution, so unless they change that (the opposite already wants to kill off the 14th)... people can say whatever they want "except where such advocacy is directed to inciting imminent lawless action and is likely to incite or produce such action" - a case even ruled in favour of Fred Phelps, upholding his right to claim all American soldiers are gay, so there you go, 'sjw' is unjustified paranoia, and you all have the right to call the person next to you on the street or bus anything at all you so desire, though of course, usually reciprocation happens afterwards and they may be even more aggressive than the paranoid bigot.

I used to think the political correctness/SJW was just a political tool to silence the left but we are past that now. SJW's have power in the academic world.
The Anti-Free-Speech Movement at UCLA Administrators and student activists at the university are attacking core First Amendment rights in a bid to punish expression that offends them.
The anti-free-speech movement at the University of Missouri
This is what happens when Social Justice Warriors run an elementary school.
Elite K-8 School teaches white kids they are born racist
They say white kids are being brainwashed into thinking any success they achieve is unearned. Indeed, a young white girl is seen confessing on a Bank Street video: “I feel guilty for having a privilege I don’t deserve.”
Thinking it can't happen here be it an authoriterian/fascist president or an orwellian SJW society because we are are advanced/civilized/protected is a mistake.

It was Ronald (Morning in America) Reagan who invited the evangelical types to pile on the Republican Party. Blame the right person. And 1% do not control us. It is more like 20%. You have to figure the people in influential and managerial positions. They don't all collect million dollar salaries.

It goes back to Reagan, but it lives on with Trump.
And while the 1% has plenty of cappos wrangling the rest of us, it's still that teeny tiny sliver of extreme wealth that ultimately gets the duck that the hunting dog brings to them.

Wait until Trump is elected and acts officially before you blame him for anything. In the normal course of things, FIRST one does something wrong, then SECOND he/she is blamed. You are jumping the gun.
Yes, Trump is an ill wind. If he loses that will be the last of him in politics. Unlike politicians he has a real honest to god day job, financing buildings of questionable worth and aesthetic value. But at least it is business and it is within the law.... If he wins, well that will be very interesting, won't it?

The Hindenburg crashing in flames was interesting. The Titanic sinking after hitting an iceberg was interesting. Interesting doesn't necessarily entail good.
