Perhaps Phoenix has become an autistic-friendly city in some ways, but I strongly question whether it has become an autistic-friendly city in terms of its overall culture.

My boyfriend lived there in the late 1980's and early 1990's. He remembers it as an ultra-conformist city where he got harassed by police, and by other people, merely for being a somewhat odd-looking man walking down the street in a city where everyone else had cars. And he is under the impression that it has most likely gotten worse in that regard, not better, since then.

Is there anyone here who is familiar with the overall culture of Phoenix these days?
