we're just more evolved chimps, it's evolution and biology that created the 'social rules'.

Everyone previous is wrong. No one invented them, they evolved over time. But it's not a biological evolution, it's a cultural one. Every culture has it's own set of social rules.

Animals have structures in there societys as well and since we are apart of the Animal kingdom, nothings really different other than we are supose to be more intelligent. But sometimes I doubt that,

I dont think anybody created them per sey. Its kinda like 'monkey see, monkey do' type thing. Fashion is a great example of this, originality is very rare and most people follow, with some of it being subconscious and everyone does it to some extent.

Who invented the social rules? I imagine that would be the people who were actually social...

Social rules are cultural. Different cultures in different places around the world have different kinds of rules.

Even this autism forum has rules about conduct, that were written by somone with autism. And are enforced by people with autism.

Think of it like a growing community of people.

In the beginning, there are not many rules, because there is no need for them. Everything is going according to plan, and everyone is getting along. However, the village grows into a town. More people equals more rules, otherwise things become chaotic and out of control. Time passes, and the new changes to social life flourish under an interconnecting web of rules that are enforced by the entire populace. Each person plays their role in keeping the peace and each person plays their role into bettering the town.

Eventually, the town grows into a city. There are so many people now that the rules just keeping adding up and adding up. At this point, legislation is constantly expanding to meet the demands of such an overflowing community of people. Law and order evolve and evolve.

Basically, social rules are the glue that keeps everyone together and everything functioning as normal. They are created through long processes that occur within a growing community. A few people are easy to manage and therefore do not take many rules, but as more and more people gather in the same place, this leads to arguments and fighting and just general chaos. Rules are put in place to keep everyone safe and happy.

Really, I could go on and on, but hopefully this answers your question.

Or, trigger warning, since this is a safe space...

imhblo, the social contract was re-written, around the time of WW2, and is headed back to the drawing board, sometime around WW3.

(Don't blame me. I would have chosen cute baby animals.)

The Brits call him "Father Christmas".

And so did the early British settlers of America.

But in the 13 colonies there were also Dutch settlers, and when their kids played with their English neighbor kids they would talk about "Saint Nicholas", but in their accent -which made it sound like "Saintniklaus". And thats how we Americans got our peculiarly American "Santa Claus" name for him. Or thats how it was explained to me when I was a kid.

Adolph Hitler made up the social rules. If you didn't fit within his mold of humanity, you were burned.
