Hi guys!
Just landed on Planet.
Grumpy today after colliding with a crowd on FB. You know - NT asks for "advice" on Autism (but what they really want is a cure, a quick fix so their child will miracuously be 'normal'), in this particular case the question was "can gluten free help with autism?". And since I have heard/read every concievable spin on "cure" since I got my diagnose (2010), I am sick and tired of NTs wanting to cure us. Or seeing only problems, difficulties and negatives in Autism.
So I responded: "Help with what? Non-autistic peoples' sh***y attitudes?
STOP LOOKING FOR CURES - autism isnt a frigging disease, condition, syndrome, disorder, illness etc that needs a cure."

Which had the NT grandmother of said child return reply that it was "aggressive nasty feedback".
The Pageowner ended up posting the policy guidelines at me because "we" are supposed to be polite.
I am so sick and tired of 1. Being asked by NTs for the best way to get rid autistics. 2. Being told by Uncle Tom Autistics that I need to politely pander to NTs sensitivities and be a good little Autist and tell them how to kill my kind.
So I came here be with My Tribe.

This in an unfortunate effect of the messages of culture and current medical science, which bases its criteria for health on 'normal function'.
People often buy into this flawed model and its mischaracterization of autism, without fully understanding the matter. Successfully pointing out to them that their view of autism is flawed often involves needing to explain why such a view is toxic, and on having someone with a basic willingness for them to sincerely listen.

Yes, correct on all counts. I simply do not have the patience or energy to knock down those walls of misconceptions, prejudice and at times willful/selective stupidity.
Unfortunately there are many Aspies/Autists out there who think they have to go along with NT normative behavior and accept being insulted, humiliated and talked down to.

Internalised Oppression explains that.

Yes, it does. It also explains why so many of us are so unaware of just how incredibly talented and resourceful we are, both as a group and as individuals.
Because NT Society and our own internalized oppression keep telling us that we, due to our divergent functioning, are failed human beings, we focus on how we are "not funtional", instead of focusing on how we function just as well or better than the norm set by NT Society.
