I found this interesting, particularly with respect to how often we're used to looking to nerve cells to try to identify a source of consciousness in ourselves and other higher mammals. Single-celled organisms being able to learn, in some other places sexually procreating (eg. yeast), it sheds some perspective on just how far down this stuff goes.

I use the word "love" here not merely in the personal sense but as a state of being, or a state of grace - not in the infantile American sense of being made happy but in the tough and universal sense of quest and daring and growth.” - James Baldwin
It is fascinating!
This is a highly unusual "single cell" organism, though, as indicated by a link in the same publication: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2 ... d-shared=0
I'm not sure it makes sense to draw parallels with other single cell organisms, given the characteristics of these molds.
I would love to know what is going on to support this at a molecular level.
