I would get a dog--specifically, a dachshund or a rat terrier.

A tarantula needs feeding occasionally. I've been looking at The British Tarantula Society's website. Four crickets. once a week, They won't be too fussed if they're not fed for a month. Full clean out of their home once a year. I think I can manage all that. I was going to post an image, but they freak people out a bit, so go look at the BTS site - under their Therophosidae Gallery - loads of images.

There is an American Tarantula Society site too. Interestingly, they link to the BTS, but the BTS don't link back. Aren't we British just toooo smug?

When you put up there "jungle animal" I had a vivid picture in my head of coming home and being stalked out as prey--- so I went with dog or cat ( my preferred choice being cat).
