I know this sounds like a silly thing to worry about...

...but I'm worried about a hurricane being named the same name as me when it gets to J.
I always remembered hurricanes being a boys name when it gets to J, being so there are 26 letters in the alphabet so if it starts with a boys name it will always end in a girls name, and so J should always land on a boys name. I don't know how it has changed to girl-boy.

Hurricane Joe is all right because that's the masculine equivalent and my name isn't spelt that way (if you'll pardon the spelling in the username), but if it's Josie then it will be my name.

I know it's a trivial thing to worry about, but knowing my luck if it is hurricaine Josie it might be a worst hurricaine on record, and my name would be printed all over the newspapers, and because my family knows I don't like my name they'll tease me about it.

Has anyone else had a hurricaine named after you?

My given name is Andrew. And the 1992 hurricane of that name was one of the worst on record (peaking at high category five). It tore up the Bahamas, and Miami-Dade county Florida, and the gulf coast of Louisiana (all far from where I live). Killed 65 people. Did billions in damage.

I survived having the same name as the storm. No one ribbed me about it, nor anything like that at the time (if thats what you're worried about).

In fact I never gave it much of a second thought until just now when responding to this thread more than 20 years later.

I remember hurricane Andrew.

I'll have to check if there's been one with my name. But no, I don't worry about it.

I've always been quite touchy about seeing my name in public places. I've always turned away embarrassed. I know I should just smile about it and not care, but because I don't like my name much, I just hate seeing it being named after a non-human thing.

Looks like Josephine is scheduled for 2020, if that's your name.

I don't see my name on any lists anywhere.

My name is old and exotic and, thankfully, has never appeared on any rolls of natural disasters.

Sometimes people name their dogs my name.

I also feel like my name is a stripper name and says, "I was born in the 80s".

Do you not like your name at all?

(I'm not fond of mine, but also don't care to change it.)

I understand. I would be upset if there was ever a Hurricane Gwen. I don't think there ever has been, but if they need a girl name with a "G", they don't have a lot of choices.

I don't think there has ever been a hurricane "Fanny".

So far there has not been a Hurricane under my real name but there has been a Hurricane Beth which occurred in 1971.
