"The Yule Log" is celebrating it's 50th anniversary! It was 50 years ago that a New York TV station got the idea to broadcast video of a burning yule log in a fireplace, for all the people who lived in small city apartments without fireplaces. It has been shown (with some interruptions) for several hours every Christmas Eve or Christmas Day since, on many TV stations.

So if you've got nothing to do and you want a very aspie-ish calming experience open up the Yule Log to full screen on your computer and just stare at it for a while, for guaranteed hypnotic relaxation. :D

I put it on for a bit on the Teen Nick station that show's The Splat. You see different 90s Nick toons in front of it. I found it pretty boring. It's running till 6am.

i'd incinerate the trees in my backyard, it would have the same effect. they're dry enough for that.

...the whole state is dry enough for that.

I think part of the reason i found it boring is because of my ADD & because it doesn't compare to the experience of sitting in front of a wood burning fire. You cant smell or feel the heat of the yule log & you cant experience playing with a fire; like lighting it, jamming logs with a rod & adding logs to the fire.

The Winter Solstice has arrived again! (At least for people who live in the right-side-up hemisphere.) Enjoy a relaxing yule log.

there is something calming about sitting in front of a fireplace in the dark. something timeless and ancient about it, something atavistic that brings a part of my primeval core to the forefront. like I am connecting with my ancestors somehow.
