Seriously, why do they do that? Why do people do rude things like giving off pictures that show them giving off the middle finger, and show pictures that say "Go f--k yourself", on social media such as Facebook and Twitter? To me, that's just flat-out annoying and disgraceful, and considered as a form of trolling! Why do they do them?

Well some people feel invincible on the internet, don't they?
And I guess it's exacerbated by either social pressures of their friends because they're all acting the same way, or they themselves are trying to make statements and shout the loudest by saying and posting the most outrageous and sometimes insulting things.
But at least you can tell quite quickly whether someone on the internet is worth your time or not!

I think it's to make them feel confident

Their true personality is revealed.
No one is standing near them to punch them - so they show their true nature.

I think one thing is it's easy to just type away random comments online without having to deal with any (immediate) repercussions. In many fora the users are also anonymous (Facebook is a bit of an exception) making it easier again to make rash comments and get away with it.

Insecurity, a false sense of extroversion, genuinely rude character or that is the limit of their humour.
Take your pick, friend!
