I'm an agnostic atheist. A perfect description of my "religion."

The word is used two different ways: one is to mean intermediate between atheist, and God believing. The other way is to mean "not knowing, but not necessarily not believing". According to those who use it the second way you can be an agnostic theist, or an agnostic atheist (believe but not know, or not believe and not know).

Aye, there are people who have taken to using it interchangeably with sceptic.

The 'vanilla' definition of an agnostic is:

A person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of immaterial things, especially of the existence or nature of God.

Literally "without knowledge", as opposed to gnostic:

Believing in the reality of transcendental knowledge; opposed to agnostic

Atheist:

One who denies or disbelieves the existence of a God.

So the difference between agnostic and atheist is:

Agnostic: I believe it's impossible to know whether or not "God" exists.
Atheist: I don't believe "God" exists.

Hence:

I am an agnostic atheist myself and from my understanding most atheists consider themselves agnostic atheists.
