I'll start. One of my favourite 90s games is Tomb Raider. I remember when, playing it as a kid, I got to the fifth level, Saint Francis' Folly. You start out in an old cathedral then you swim through an old drain pipe to discover the cathedral was built atop a vast pagan temple complex. It's all centered around a huge vertical shaft that seems to go down forever.

That's only the beginning. As you play through the levels you find that each level was built on top of an even more ancient building. There's the medieval cathedral atop a pagan temple atop an amphitheatre atop King Midas' palace atop an ancient sewer and beneath that, is the most tomb of Tihocan, king of Atlantis!

In Egypt I was amazed to find that, beneath a gigantic Sphinx there's a huge flooded chamber with enormous statues. I'm amazed the Playstation one can even render objects that big.

In the sequel there's a section which is like reenacted The Poseidon Adventure. You explore an upside down shipwreck. Even finding the hidden passages in Lara's mansion was pretty cool.

Also I loved the music. It was so atmospheric. It really captured the mood of the ancient ruins, and the civilisations that built them. What it was like back when those ruins were newly built.

One that comes to mind is Crash Bandicoot. I played the crap out of those games as a kid. They even hold up surprisingly well today. The original PS1 trilogy and CTR are some of my all-time favorite games.

A couple more - although I only started playing them more recently - would be Doom and Unreal.

Who remembers the original Theme Park for Mega Drive and SNES? I used to spend hours in front of that game as a kid. Actually did quite well despite having no understanding of business.

I just remembered Super Mario Bros. 3! Although it was released in Japan in 1998, it wasn't released in North America until 1990. But it was worth the extra wait. :)

You think you had it bad? We didn't get it until 1991.

In fact, Australia got Super Mario Bros. 3 six months after Japan got Super Mario World!

The three I can think of off the top of my head are:

NES TMNT (released mid 1989, but I played that well into the 90s)

Sega Genesis Boogerman (also released on SNES)

PS1 MediEvil

^ Oh, I only looked at release date, not when I played them. I can add all the SMB games, TMNT, Duck Hunt, Hogan's Alley, Snake Rattle and Roll, Paper boy.
