I didn't have much of a appetite at times when I was depressed.

What antidepressant are you on? Wellbutrin? Celexa? There are antidepressants that can cause appetite loss even if they aren't effectively helping your depression.

sorry for late response, i take lexapro, low dosage (2.5 of a 5mg tablet) since i also have bipolar.

I used to take abilify for my bipolar depression and it just sucked the hunger right out of me. it took me almost a year to re-regulate my hunger/appetite.

However, the lexapro hasn't done this to me before, I've been on it for a little over 6 months.

If the appetite loss is really bad and you need a mood stabilizer anyway due to your bipolar then ask your doctor about seroquel. It should help stabilize your mood and definitely make you more hungry.

i do take a mood stabilizer; guess i forgot to mention that. i take Gabapentin (Neurontin), especially because of my body pain.

I think i probably need to go up a bit on the lexapro anti-depressant, maybe it's the winter blues kickin' in.

My appetite gets suppressed during depression and while I take certain drugs. I take adderall and recently had a depressive episode which caused me to rapidly lose weight. I know cannabis is great for stimulating appetite. I wish it was legal so I could use it for my appetite problem. You could try it if you don't care about the legality.

The antidepressant Remeron/Mirtazapine can increase appetite & it might be able to be taken with Lexapro sense it's in a different class.
