LETS choose a decade like the 2000's. We know early 2000's Begins in 2000 and late 2000's ends in 2009. But when did the early 2000's end and late 2000's begin.

If you're just splitting it in two (as in, you don't want any "mid 2000s" or anything), and just going by number of years, the boundary would be the midnight that separates 2004/2005. So:

Early
2000
2001
2002
2003
2004

Late
2005
2006
2007
2008
2009

Most people believe that 2005 lies in the "middle" of the 2000's--hence, the mid-2000's.

Some people would include 2004 and 2006 in the "middle of the 2000s" as well.

So, to be safe:

2000-2003=early 2000's

2004-2006=mid 2000's

2007-2009=late 2000's.

Though I believe people tend to view 2004 as "early" and 2006 as "late."

That's how I divide it.
I'm not used to anyone going from early to late and skipping mid-decade completely, as described by OP. There is a primo, medio and ultimo.
