I have SAD but mine is in the summer which is incredibly rare. There is something about sunlight and seeing happy people out being active all the time. Also heat and longer days. It all just depresses me to no end. I live in the midwest so there's basically nine months of summer here, followed by two months of fall and one month of winter, then back to summer. There is no spring. Spring is a lie.

When it's cloudy, overcast, snowing, cold, or raining, I am the happiest person in the universe like I am in a musical

Does anyone else have summer or winter depression?

I don't know if mine is official, but I've definitely found a correlation between higher temperatures and my mood. Its something about the heat- I don't tolerate the heat well physically. And that affects my mood.

For me I don't think it has to do with the actual sun vs clouds. I think its just the heat.

I do have a heat issue as well. It drains my energy very quickly, and also I have eczema so I will break out in hives if I'm exposed to it too long. -_-

After I graduated high-school, I tended to feel more depressed during the summer but I lived in south Louisiana which was VERY hot & humid all summer long & I've always preferred nighttime to daytime. I never tolerated heat & humidity well & I had allergies & skin eczema that was worse during the summer.

I notice the depression I've had for so long goes through peaks and troughs throughout the year, probably not enough to classify as having SAD, though.
One tends to see a lot more socialising going on in the warmer months (at least here, being a beach town) and that often negatively affects me if I already haven't been feeling good that day. It also makes me feel guilty as well, because I don't and shouldn't begrudge others their own happiness, but keep on trying (for all eternity, it seems!) to improve my own.

I can totally relate to the first post in this thread by BrokenPieces.

I need storms. I need rain. I need dark. I don't like sunny days. I need panic and emergency even sometimes. I need a break in routine, I guess. The routine of me being the only one not having fun.

Summer in Western Australia is particularly hot. And I hates it!!

I have been hospitalised twice with depression in the summer time and while I was in there, I wouldn't go outside because it was cool inside with the air conditioning.

At home we don't have air conditioning and I suffer in front of the fans.

This time of year is good - cooling down for winter, my favourite time of year.
