Successfully did not take an opportunity to bore my family by rambling about one of my special interests even though the door was being held wide open for me to do so

I installed an induction cooktop. It's supposed to be "plug and play". It just has a normal power plug. Which is fine if your old one was plugged into a normal power point but the old one was not. There is no power point in the cupboard under the cooktop. I had to open up the new cooktop, dewire the power cord and then connect it directly to the power conduit.

I also got a new phone case, disposed of the old cooktop, put the games away that the baby had pulled out of the shelf, installed a new Ikea light and sensor and paired the new sensor with the old one so that both would turn on at the same time.

Great work Retro! All of the old electric cooktops I've come across are hardwired in. Perhaps they draw more than 10 Amps so can't use a normal power point. If that's case they could put it on a 15 Amp powerpoint which should be more than enough for any domestic cooktop. 15 Amp outlets are backwards compatible and can be used with regular 10 Amp plugs. If they did this it would be much easier for homeowner's to replace their own appliances. I've noticed that a lot of downlight installations are now done like this, there's a regular power point mounted on the rafters above making it easy to replace your own lights.
