well, Kris 94,
just understand sexuality is a continum, a spectrum, just like autism has a spectrum, so does sexuality. and like when a prism splits light and there is the color spectrum you can see there are far more color options than just a red 'gay' or a purple 'straight' because there are so many colors in between you can be!

No, people don't chose to be gay!

That is a remark made by religion since thousands of years ago written in the Penthateuc, which was at a time of human ignorance, in which people believed the world was flat, they believed sick people were possesed by evil spirits, they believed God is a man, so men should be first and women second.

Centuries later, religion still makes that argument, which at the 21 century is Ridiculous, things have changed, humankind had advanced in science and technology, and still believing that gay people are evil is crap and pure IGNORANCE.

Actually that is one of the reasons that I questioned religion dogma a few years ago.

I am straight, am I allowed to say all of this?

Soph I sympathize with you for your feelings about religion
maybe they need to change this, they had change a lot of things with time, so why not change this view?

No, I don't think sexual orientation is a choice.

Your use of the word religion seems too vague. There are all sorts of religions that embrace all types of sexuality including some Christian denominations, Episcopal, to name one.

That's right! It's nothing to be ashamed of. Just wait and see, then make up your mind - no pressure!

So when did you sign on the dotted line declaring that you'd chosen to be straight?

nb you can choose to label yourself as gay, but not to be gay.

I didn't choose my sexuality (and I believe in God, if that matters to the OP). I won't say that some people don't, though. Honestly, there are times that I have been physically attracted to a girl. But thinking about it I know that I would never want to have sex with one or be in a relationship with one, I am not comfortable with that emotionally.

If sexuality is a choice (remember what Fraud said about the sexual object) then it is a subconscious decision that the child or teenager makes without knowing. It is something set by the onset of puberty. I believe all children learn about sexuality as they grow up, then at teenage years they become aware of it.

I think the reason religion has thought it a conscious chioce all these years is because most men and women can probably go both ways. So religion urged most people to make the "right" choice. Except that there are some amongst us who are either 100% straight or 100% gay.

That is what I think anyway.

I've always been adamant that people can't help what they're attracted, up until my college years. It seems women are more fluid in their sexuality, and I actually think some guys choose to be gay.
