True, but misleading. Theocracy or general religiosity correlates more strongly. As nations become more secular, they infringe less on LGBT rights.

No surprise there. The cultures produced by Islam are backwards. Even the best Muslim countries like Indonesia or Turkey are backwards. Indonesia practises female genital mutilation, and Turkey has become a de facto dictatorship.

Most Muslim-majority countries and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have opposed moves to advance LGBT rights at the United Nations, in the General Assembly or the UNHRC. In May 2016, a group of 51 Muslim states blocked 11 gay and transgender organizations from attending 2016 High Level Meeting on Ending AIDS.

chechnya.

chechnya while being a part of russia still has its own goverment. the leading party is a islamist-party and 99 % in checnya are sunni-muslims. do you really think its by chance that the only part of russia that gays getting killed by the state is in checnya? no way.
