Twofold error on my part. Firstly I was focusing on what Putin was supposed to be planning on doing the United States. Secondly, I misread what Biscuitman said as Putin taking over Latvia or Belarus, rather than grabbing a piece.

Ok, so you got two different arguments from different people mixed into one, I can accept that, it happens to me too sometimes. :wink:

It's obvious that Putin wanted Trump, rather than Hillary----for the simple reason that Hillary would have kept alive the sanctions imposed by Obama.

It's obvious, as Aristophanes pointed out, that Russia has similar expansionist designs as they had in previous times. They are all pretty parallel and consistent, over a few centuries. It involves access to the entire Black Sea for strategic/expansionist purposes.

Obama wasn't having any of that....

But that's differnt! That was the United States interfering in Russian elections for the sake of democracy! And that happened in the past! Where's your sense of patriotism?! *sarcasm*

The huge surge in lefist anti-Russia hype is just an anti-Trump hype side effect. They have to bill Putin as the arch nemesis of the United States, so they can go on about Trump being in bed with him. I'm not calling it a conspiracy though. A conspiracy requires sophistication. This stuff is just blatant propaganda, that will eventually fall flat. It's fitting for them to use actors since it's a fictional situation.
