It's prolonged emotional responses. I can't find much information about it.

Anyone know anything about it or have tips for treating it?

Oftentimes I hold grudges

For a long time. Ten years. Twenty years. And counting

Intensely

Obsess over it. Every single day.

Diversion

Meditation

Medication

Counseling

Holding grudges, for me is natural

The current counselor told me about  forgiveness

But I wonder if forgiveness is all or nothing

Maybe just partial forgiveness

Or......... Just  repression

And I wonder.... If forgiveness ain't happening, what is the next best thing :?:

Because there has to be a third option. Not just grudge, forgiveness......

This article is about all types of perseveration and covers treatment as well. Don't know if it will be any use. http://www.snagglebox.com/article/perseveration

Forgetting would be one... though I don't know how to deliberately forget something... hypnosis?
The thing about grudges is they tend to most negatively impact the person holding them. Partial forgiveness, which sounds a lot to me like "acceptance", is a good first step.

In the meantime, finding ways to distract yourself from dwelling on the past (if possible), should be a relief too.

Hate destroys the hater before the hated - Marcus Aurelius.

I wonder if Adjustment Disorder is emotional perseveration.

Emotional perseveration is just a symptom, not a whole disorder.

Yes, the third option is to have compassion for the offender just as we would for someone who might puke on our shoes when he or she is physically ill. We can "forgive" in the sense of not wishing harm upon someone following his or her wrong, offensive or even merely disgusting behaviour. Even criminals are to be prosecuted with compassion, not retaliation and vengeance.
