Why do machines for washing clothes get the title "washing machine"? There are machines for washing other things, but it's the machines for washing clothes that get the title of being "washing machines". Why is this?

Just call it clothes washer and the dishwasher a washing machine if you're uncomfortable, or put the dishes into smashy city and the clothes impaled upon the various annoyingly sharp poke-racks in the new washing machine. Or take everything you need turning shiny and flee into the nearest new new washing machine, just beware of the rowdy cars revving behind you! I call the bathtub the machine and my limbs the wafting washing wrigglers.

Clothes washing machine got invented earlier in history than were dishwashers, and car washing machines. So they got named first.

That's just one reason among others.

Humans are more obsessed with clothes washing technology because we wash clothes more often than we wash anything else, even our own bodies. The laundry is sometimes called "the wash".

Earlier in history, more man hours, more thought, goes into cleaning clothes, than into cleaning anything else.
