Hello, all!

I am the mom of an Aspie. He did not do well transition to college from high school, so I am looking for information on where the breakdown occurs. I am about to graduate with a B.S Psychology, and as my senior Capstone project I am doing a research project on this topic.

Please help me out by filling out this survey. It is completely confidential, and will take just a few minutes to complete. If you know of someone who would like to help who isn't on WrongPlanet, feel free to send them the link. It will only be open for a few days. Here's the link:

Thank you in advance!!

Andrea

Have you sought the site owners permission to post this survey? I'm pretty sure that it is considered poor form not to.

I did contact Alex directly and he said it was okay to post the survey.

Why the discrimination against Aspies who do not have a formal diagnosis?

It's not a discrimination, but for the purposes of my small informal research I needed to be able to say that everyone "said" they had a formal diagnosis. That being said, since this IS an informal study solely for the purpose of a project grade, feel free to go in, do the survey again, and say that you do have a diagnosis. I am fully aware that in some cases a professional diagnosis is not available. In some cases it's not even relevant or necessary. I'm sorry if you felt it was non-inclusive.

This survey also can and has been publicly shared, and I needed to have a way to make sure that I was only receiving the answers from those with ASD.

Done, although there's a flaw in the questioning.

If one answers 'no' to this question:

Quote:
During high school, were supports offered to assist with the transition from high school to college? *
YES / NO

they require a 'not applicable' option on its follow-up:

Quote:
Do you feel that the supports helped to prepare you for college? *
YES / NO

Also, the 'Did you graduate?' question might benefit from a third option for those currently studying.

Good luck :)

Thank you for participating and for the feedback. I will actually go in and make some changes based on your comments.

I failed Gr. 12, with a general knowledge level exceeding college grad level. I got interested in an engineering specialty, and went to the library for help with a project. Then I was invited to lecture to graduating engineers.
Attempts to fit me into normal classes are generally useless, whereas a little help in discovering my abilities, combined with some to make my deficiencies irrelevant, can make me very productive.

Thank you got the personal input. Every bit of information is helpful. Were you able to take the survey?

I got dumped pretty quick as a non-grad, non-student.

Thank you all for the responses! If you know of anyone else who could participate? I need a few more.

This is an informal pilot study, but this topic is so important that I will continue to do formal studies in the future.

Please consider helping so I can show the problem of lack of supports in universities and colleges for this project.
