It isn't just NTs, it's all people. Any kind of situation where I have to be in close proximity with people with little personal space. Or having to sit in a circle facing people like at an AS support group I had to go to when I was a teenager, and checkout lines in stores(I love self checkout stores). When I went to the atlanta aquarium a few months back it had to have been one of the hardest things I went through with huge amounts of people in tight spaces, people were rude, they would step on my feet and people would walk right through me so I either had to move or bump hard into them.

When I'm at a party where I know very few people and the conversation is very superficial. I am also uneasy in big crowds.

At events where people are just wandering around, like art shows or festivals. People can get pretty overwhelming very quickly when they keep crowding too close, and laughing loudly in your ear.

When walking, it's trying to figure out who goes where. when going along the hall and there is two abreast walking towards you, does the single one turn sideways to let them pass? Does one brazenly keep their original path? who decides? do they have that body language thing going on and I just don't know? are they flashing signals like the Titanic going down and I am looking right through them?

~sigh~

what a life, pushing 60 years old and I still haven't figured out that one!

My tolerance for small talk has drastically reduced in the past 6 months. My 2 older sons have been diagnosed with Asperger's in the last 6 months.

Therefore when people have long, boring discussion complaining about something completely inane I feel like screaming. It's just like an irritating noise.

Is that what it's like having Asperger's?

When I have these moments I often think - is that what's it like for my boys?

I hate talking on the phone. I usually get distracted by something else in the room. The conversation is always stilted and weird. I can't explain anything with a picture, so I try to make out a picture using words, and that never goes very well.

I never know how to end the phone conversation.

And it is especially bad if I call customer service... I don't know what they need from me... and they always speak very quickly and assume you know exactly what they said. I need to ask them to repeat every other sentence they say.

I have to take several looooong bus rides this coming week with my lovely work colleagues (folks I can't relate to *at all*). I'm really dreading it: nowhere to retreat; it's like claustrophobia, but different.

And of course (to keep this on-topic), they'll be yukking it up at high decibels.

When people "out there" are interested in knowing me, and especially when there's a romantic connotation attached....

Starbuline,

I'd only make fun of you if you wanted me to. :)

Merle,

I just stand to the side and let them pass.
