I wonder if this is an aspie trait, cos my sis hates mainstream music, though she might like one or two she usually never ever listen to radio where they play mainstream.
Like i would say hey, do u like this song? and me hoping she did, she would never like "my" songs cos they were suppossed to be mainstream, however i listen to a lot of songs that are not mainstream and still wouldnt like them, so maybe she does it just to do the oppostie i do.
Ive always been considerate with her , saying i like this song or the other just to make her happy, but she never does that with me, i guess thats an aspie thing ´cos ive only found out a year ago.
So do you guys like mainstream or not at all?

When I like it, it feels like a guilty pleasure.

But then, I'm very picky about my music because I don't like too much unnecessarily negative or morally skewed input going into my brain.

Never listened to music as such until I was about 16. It started with Indie (alternative but mellow) music, progressed to Ska and Rock. Now mostly Rock / Punk Rock / Pop Punk.

There's nothing quite like a bit of Alkaline Trio at 5am in the morning on the drive to work :-)

Some mainstream music is okay, but I tend to listen to music that most people have never even heard of, like Chemical Brothers, Rammstein, Paul Van Dyk, and DJ Neophyte.

Enough fuss about what's mainstream or not. For me there's only music I like and music I don't like. It could be everything from underground techno, german rock, to the weekly #1. I think the people who only like 'non-mainstream' like to think everybody else isn't 'cool enough' or' 'posers'. Well if you ask me the ones discriminating against mainstream music are the real 'posers', they could arguably pass on alot of good music simply because it's mainstream, so what's the point?

I like most music, so yeah. Most mainstream music I tend to use for background though.

I prefer Metal and more progressive music. Just got the new Neurosis album and I love it.

hurrah for neurosis! did you see them live recently?

the term 'mainstream' is relative. just saw someone up thread describe the chemical brothers as not being mainstream. they would be consided so where i live. i like some fairly 'difficult listening' but some stuff i like is or becomes very popular and it doesn't make me like it any less.

I like SOME pop music, but alot of it is pap. I just like what sounds good I guess...! Really depends what mood I'm in too. I have a fairly wide taste.

What I like USED to be mainstream. Stuff like Robert Johnson, Ry Cooder, Bob Dylan (fairly mainstream)

I need a concrete definition of “mainstream” music, before I can answer your question.

When I listen to the lyrics of music on the pop radio station favored by local teens, I am amused by their simplicity and repetition. There are times when I don't feel like thinking deeply, and then my ears will welcome some of this kind of music. I prefer classic rock and classical music, other times.
