Is a Democratic Socialist victory in 2020 inevitable?
This is something I am seriously beginning to wonder about. Is it near certain that a Democratic socialist or a candidate of the same creed will win?
I think it could well be inevitable. The polls seem to suggest it for one. Most Democrats testify to being angry with their own party's establishment, meaning they are more likely to pick someone out of the box. In addition according to Pew Research polls the vast majority of Democrats support free college and a public option. This I think means they will gravitate towards more left-leaning candidates who represent those values. Here are the polls on the issue of healthcare right here: http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tan...e ... democrats/
In addition, this is likely to translate to success on the national level. It would appear to be that the American public gravitates to more left-leaning socialist leaders. Take for instance Bernie Sanders. Even whilst Hillary was trailing in the polls against Trump in late May, Bernie was taking the lead. And the American public do seriously seem to support his proposals. For instance, a CNBC poll came out last year stating that 62% of Americans support free college, https://www.cnbc.com/2016/08/01/over-60 ... -says.html.
By comparison, Trump's presidency is almost in the ditch it seems. He has a 58% disapproval rating and even in states such as West Virginia, she is almost trailing Elizabeth Warren in raw polls. This I think speaks allot about the direction the country is heading in overall. The safe center really does appear to be dying. And I think that in 2020 it will bite the Republicans badly in the ass as they lose many traditionally red states in a landslide. In the aftermath, I suspect many Republicans and conservatives will feel helpless. But I am convinced for better or for worse it is coming.
nobody knows, it's too early to tell - we're only one year into his presidency and while i doubt it would happen there's plenty of time for him to turn this ship around and maybe get more people to rally behind him again. even then he's done things like kill the TPP which i appreciate.
i hope it doesn't become a trend that we start speculating on the next election before the current one is even decided. we've been having threads like this for over a year now and constant campaigning is just tiring.
i vote D more often than R (in the two years i've been able to vote) but what's the point of voting for either if all that will happen is overturning and repealing the other party's legislation? why have your rights come and go with election cycles?

Sanders lost badly to Clinton. It's true that younger voters seem to be more left-wing but it's far from inevitable that the next nominee will be left-wing. Hopefully we get a centrist who can actually take on Trump.
He means a relatively left-wing Democrat like Sanders, rather than democratic socialism. The Nordic countries are more capitalist than America...

I think all they'd have to do is put someone up who has integrity, clear diction, and showers to take 2020.
Also I really hope both parties are doing some strong introspection right about now. Any other way this just goes farther downhill.

I'm not sure if the Democrats need social democracy, but they certainly need to do something about lobbying. They're never going to win as long as corporate America continues to support the Republican Party, create havoc in the Middle East, and so fourth.

The candidate opposing Trump will not likely be Hillary so by that low standard his opponent should win. Most likely scenario for a Trump reelection is a mainstream Dem candidate and a socialist or a regressive left candidate splitting the vote.

I think the Dems will have quite a few victories in ‘18 and ‘20, but not sure what types of Dems will have the best showing. The most-speculated-on Democratic presidential candidates for 2020 appear to be Caroline Kennedy, Cory Booker, John Bel Edwards, Bill deBlasio, and Kamala Harris. Many say Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden, but their age could be a factor. I wouldn’t mind seeing John Hickenlooper run either.
On the GOP side, it’s becoming more and more likely that Trump (or Pence, should Trump be impeached) will have at least one fierce primary challenger in ‘20, possibly Jeff Flake or John Kasich. I would prefer Susana Martinez, or Bill Haslam though. There is also a possibility that Trump might not run at all.

I wonder what would happen if they pressed this button, Would it cause a national earthquake in the White House and break the third indictment?
I don't think anyone would dare to reign supreme again.
Still, these figures are slightly more appeasing
