It's actually quite complex of a task apparently. So complex that Wikihow needed an article titled "how to ring a doorbell". https://www.wikihow.com/Ring-a-Doorbell#

Ringing the doorbell is a simple task. Overcoming the anxiety associated with ringing the doorbell is not.

When I was a kid I loved doorbells, like the one at my grandparent's old house, and sometimes secretly wanted no one to be home so I could ring it repeatedly.

My old apartment had a working doorbell, but I would startle pretty badly when it rang, even when I was expecting someone. My anxiety was so bad back then. :(

But seriously, a Wikihow on ringing a doorbell?
