Just found out that some frequencies and sounds have names of colours. I personally like brown noise the most. What about you? South Park jokes anticipated...

I've not heard anything beyond the white/pink/brown noise. audio industry professionals sometimes call pink noise "rose noise" for some reason known only to them. can you tell me more about purple or blue noise?

I was wondering myself. Some just feel good but I'd rather ask someone who's really into this stuff.

I use brown noise generated by a large HEPA filter, to block out the other sounds that interfere with sleep [such as the neighbors, phones ringing, my own heartbeat, etc.]

Your own heartbeat interferes with your sleep? That's tough, I guess.

I live beside a forest and often sleep with a window open to the sounds of wind, rain, birds, etc.

^^^that sounds very tranquil. you must live in a higher-class area. I live out in the woods also, but so do the local yahoos, who in the wee hours are likely to do things like shoot guns and blast music. hence the brown noise generator.

I'd pick brown because it'd be funny for others to $hit their pants
I really only know about white noise & heard it used to describe most any background noise that helps block other sounds.

You must be, said the Cat, or you wouldn't have come here.

the "brighter" the noise [closer to white] the more trebles it contains. brown noise is similar to the boomy air rush you hear in big buildings' huge air handling systems, it is a palpable noise with rolled-off trebles. hence the term "brown" as it is a "darker" noise.

I hadn't heard of anything but white noise until this thread, but having checked it out on YouTube, I like blue and brown noise.

Pink for sleeping. Blue or brown where it's people noisy. DaleSnail on YouTube has the best ones.

^ Have never noticed. For me, brown noise is the sound of a long corridor of a large spacious building, when someone walks.
