If you hover your mouse cursor over the emoji it will give you the name

Yep. Although the ones in youtube comments don't do that so I don't know what a lot of them mean.

Your only other option would be to search the emojipedia

Thanks for the post of faces zombie bride. Think I worked out half of them! The emoji thing I suppose I don't use them very often so maybe that's why I'm not familiar.

:? no idea what this one means!

Just wondering if everyone could read the facial expressions in the photographs? For the first minute I was a bit stumped and it felt like I was systemising, searching for times when I've seen that sort of facial expression. Most difficult for me was the top middle chap!

Actually if you move your arrow over the smileys on WP, you'll see their meanings appear on the screen.
I draw cartoons and have learned how to draw expressions from seeing other cartoons, so I actually understand most emoji faces. Even some NT people don't always know what they mean. Like they mistake the popular "tears of joy" or "laughing so hard I'm crying" emoji for a very different kind of crying, and then they post something like:

"Your grandmother just died. *tears of joy emoji*"

And that would be very 8O.

I think smilies and emojis can have more than one meaning, contrary to the plot of that horrific Emoji movie. For example I like to use the  emoji to show that I'm in a devilish or mischievous mood, but someone else might use it to show that they're "horny".

The Autism spectrum presents difficulties in understanding (and putting to words) facial expressions. The Autism spectrum can also presents difficulties in understanding emoji expressions.

It seems that the younger generations understand emoji faces better than the older generations. It may be possible that older generation NTs might have the most difficulty understanding emojis.

Personally, as a part of the older generation (most of our lifetimes before TECH. (and emojis), I have trouble understanding emojis. Yet, I have mild difficulties understanding some types of facial expressions.

The arrow shows the names when I move it over the smileys even in the comments. Maybe it doesn't work on all computers?
