Its fine to dip fish sticks and shrimp into.

I got no problem with tartar sauce.

But I have always wondered why its called "Tartar sauce". The Tartars were like the Mongols, and Huns. A bunch of pillaging horse riding nomads from the Eurasian Steppe. I doubt that they invented tartar sauce. And I also doubt that they ate much seafood since they lived as far from the sea as you can get. So why is the sauce named after them?

Cream of tartar in the sauce base, maybe? Steak Tartare is named for the Tartars...

Fun trivia: "Tartar Sauce" is Grumpy Cat's real name, except it's spelled "Tardar Sauce" for some reason.

I'm not into it but I don't use things like ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, gravy, ect.

I like to dip fried fish from Ivar's into it. I wouldn't like it with anything else.

I really like tartar sauce. I don't really like fish, but I like using tartar sauce for sandwiches and burgers and chicken fingers.

But I never cared much for the name, because tartar is supposed to be that hard crusty gunk that the dentist scrapes off your teeth. :eew: I used to also think it contained cream of tartar, but apparently not.

I love fish & chips, they have a restaurant that have them, they are very yummy & crunchy, but they keep forgetting to give me tartar sauce :( I think I have to buy tartar sauce.

Do anyone know why they call it fish & chips? It’s fish & fries.

After tennis lessons, I go to an Italian restaurant for lunch. One of the specials is fish and chips and I have tartar sauce with it. It's delicious!
