It freaks me out that throughout our whole lives, we never truly see our own face. I think it would help the world if people weren't so vain and didn't use their looks for power (or in some cases, for self-hatred).

Being sexually unattractive and people not being interested in having a sexual relationship with one, might be a clue as to how one looks to others. 8)

Yes. Individual people can only "use their looks for power" if others see value in said looks. And ugly individuals won't get depressed about their looks until others make it obvious how unattractive they are. Lack of mirrors and photography wouldn't make any difference whatsoever. Ultimately, it's the collective that allow the good-looking to get away with murder and for the ugly to suffer. Nothing to do with the actions of said individual. Not seeing your own face won't change how others, collectively, see your face. Sad to think so many things are beyond our control. But I agree entirely.

It should be "shouldn't have been invented".

Funny you mention this. I've seen this grammatical error made all over the Internet by people from all across the globe. While you're correct, I wonder if in 100 years, "of" instead of "have" will be considered proper English, simply because so many people do it.

And, though a double contraction is rare, in common speech we're saying shouldn't've. 've (short for have) sounds like of, but the word of makes no sense grammatically in this context. Yet, so many people make this mistake as if they don't comprehend the grammar behind it. It may one day become "correct" to use of simply due to prevalence.

Dr Pepper: I heavily agree.
State owned oil companies: I can agree to.
Smartphones: I agree and disagree because I like smartphones but however I think smartphones are too expensive and have gone way too far these days and I don't ask much out of a phone to the point the even the original Iphone could meet all things I want out of a phone like internet, games, taking pictures, texting, and calling.
Facebook: I can agree and the thing that keeps me on Facebook is pretty much friends and family.
For Mormonism and 401ks: Why do you wish they weren't invented?

Why would you want that I think it would be terrible to not see what you look like.

I wish 401ks would of never been invented because it was responsible for killing pensions and killed retirement for many lower middle class to middle class people. The 401k was never meant to be the sole retirement plan someone would have.It was meant to supplement the pension but it did not happen that way.It forced many people who knew nothing about the stock market into saving for retirement the best they could in the stock market with no pension and just their nest egg and social security.I just wish Mormonism was not invented for various reasons...too many to list.

Me personally I can agree but however I think people should save up for retirement first and use a pension/social security as a last resort. I think Mormonism never being invented would be a good alternate history and Brigham Young was one of the worst politicians in American history just type in 10 worst governors in American history and you will find a video with him as the worst governor.

Oh okay kool it depends on the country because America includes most people to contibute to social security as part of the FICA tax.Money is put into Social Security out of every 16 year olds first paycheck from their first job to rest of their working career to fund the national retirement system of social security but i would not advise young people to count on Social Security to fund their whole retirement.Nowadays its mostly government jobs that have pensions in the US not private sector.I did not know Brigham young was an actual politician much less a governor.I think the feds deemed the Mormons a serious threat because of the whole Utah theocracy thing.

I know you said many reasons for why mormonism shouldn't been invented but if you could say just one or things you dislike about mormonism what would it be or whatever comes to your mind first?

well I am against fiat currency because my economics teacher said that all fiat currencies eventually fail and have hyperinflation and become worthless like Weimar Germany in the 1920's..I would prefer a gold standard to fiat currency.I am against managed funds because the experts aint worth the money you pay because most of them underperform the market.Plus index funds are cheaper and more tax-efficient.I am into money and investing wisely just not into loving fiat currency.I think investing in managed mutual funds is not very wise.

Inflation is part of how capitalism works. Hyperinflation in various societies has been down to a socialistic mindset where people are given something in return for doing nothing and hence have no motivation for being useful and productive.

Gold may be lovely to look at and have it's function in certain chemical situations but it's not easily exchanged in return for goods. Enter fiat currency. Fiat currency while also not able to be eaten or lived in is readily exchangeable for the stuff we do need in life. Food. Shelter. Healthcare.

Fiat currency is a store of wealth - evidence of work (except when you've been given it for doing nothing in return). It's easily stored, invested and spent as required. When I go to my local shop and buy a loaf of bread I can't give the cashier gold, the price on it is $2.79 per loaf.

Governments keep printing money but that long ago lost any connection to the amount of gold reserves they keep. Governments have for many years been fiscally irresponsible. In Australia we have a very generous social welfare system, about 20 years ago some bright spark brought in the "baby bonus" (aka plasma bonus) scheme where people were paid money (robbed from the pockets of those who work) to crank out more kids. Overnight the motivation to continue reliance on the welfare system went up even more and now we have more bogans than ever who do nothing and get "paid" by the government with funds (stolen from the earnings) of others. Bludgeing off the government has become a national passtime and career choice in Australia.

Index funds also deal with fiat currency, I don't think I could take a 10 ounce bar of gold bullion to an index fund and buy some units. Of course both index funds and managed funds have their place, there are costs associated with using them but they also bring rewards. Here is the earnings of a manged fund that I have had money parked in since the late 1990's:

https://www.eurekareport.com.au/managed ... ation/1598

Yes, I realise they take just under 1% in fees, but they have also consistently returned well over 10% on average and earnings are reinvested every distribution free of entry fees. Furthermore when I put the money into the fund I was earning a fraction of what I do now, not to mention the effect of inflation. I also managed to get a rebate on the 4% entry fee through my broker, the effect of which makes thousands of dollars difference to me now. It is also an imputation fund so tax has been paid on the earnings at the company rate of 30% thus gives me imputation credits. To top it off I own shares in CBA who runs the managed fund so some of the profits go to me through dividends.

Without the ability to invest fiat currency and earn a reward and the liquidity it provides to take place in commerce the world would grind to a halt. How much do you think you could barter the vegetables and livestock in your back yard for? What else do you have that you could easily trade to put food on the table and shelter over your head? I still find your handle "moneyman" amusing. Maybe money grows on trees or appears out of thin air or something.

I am not talking about paying with physical bars of gold.i am talking about paper money backed by physical gold.Diviends are not magic although I have a lot of them. They function like a forced withdrawal. You would be better off with a no-load no to low fee broad based index fund.

your mostly right.i think crypto is the biggest financial bubble since Tulip bulbs in the Netherlands. But I think they have their place like if you had to escape from a country.I dont know how crypto and bitcon have been legal for this long in the US since anyone can create their own cryptocoin and start their own currency. As much as I hate fiat currency I have way more faith in the U.S. Dollar and the Swiss Franc than I do bitcoin or any other crypto.I also wish that commission based financial advisors would of never been invented. At least I dont think that the dollar will be worthless in my life most likely but with bitcoin i dont know. But i still would want bitcoin at some point in case I need to go somewhere.I do like fiat currency printed by governments like what Lincoln did with the greenback theoretically more than the currencies which is printed by a private central bank like the U.S.Dollar.
