Hank Azaria to stop voicing Apu?

but if somebody else steps in to do the voice, then what has been accomplished?

It would be nice if someone who is of Indian ancestry could voice the character. Humor but sensitive to the experiences Indians face everyday.

I am mostly worried that the changes will cause people to stop watching, and the show will be cancelled.

By all accounts, it should have been canceled long ago.

Let's face it, the show has not been the same since Phil Hartman died, and most of the voice actors are getting older (Harry Shearer is in his 70s!). I heard it has been renewed for a 31th season, and honestly, I am hoping that it would be the last, only because if a main voice actor dies, that would mean either retiring characters, killing them off, or trying to find a replacement that won't be the same.

With that being said, I agree that an Indian voice actor should step up and voice Apu. Maybe Kunal Nayyar (Raj on The Big Bang Theory) has some time on his hands for this? If not, that is fine.

I would love for Hari Kondabolu to voice Apu.

I can't remember the last time I even watched The Simpsons.

But this all shows the insanity these days. SJWs want to ruin everything with their nonsense.

I still have a soft spot for the Simpsons and its earlier shows, but I haven't watched the new episodes since the movie came out, and even before that the show was going downhill.

Of course it's still perfectly okay to have stereotypes such as Cletus the Slack-jawed Yokel, Luigi the Pizza chef, Groundskeeper Willie, and even that sea captain guy. And Homer himself is a stereotype of an adult male Caucasian American - fat, lazy, stupid, alcoholic, totally ignorant of culture, feels special and superior for being American, refers to Canada as America Junior, etc. etc. But these stereotypes are all based on humor and not hate.

Oh my god we want to not openly mock a whole group of people. Shut up whiner.

Ridiculous. People are so easily offended these days. It gets on my nerves.

I don't understand what made this a problem now? I see lot's of both Indians and Arabs running convenience stores.

At least them and the character Apu are business owners and entrepreneurs contributing to the community.

Oh well, I wonder what actual South Asians think of this character or if they even care.

Apu is very much seen as racist. First he has to be voiced by someone who's heritage is from India. Also he can't be a sad caricature of an indian.

Wow, somebody's sensitive here. You've got to stop attacking those of us who happen to have a different opinion. We are not 'whiners' or 'uncaring', we are just disappointed in how a show like the Simpsons that has been running all this time is now suddenly offending people.

His portrayal has offended for years. It is racist and needs to be off the show. I don't support racist views so that's why I can't agree with someone who thinks Apu needs to stay.
