It should be "I'm proud to be in America where at least I know I'm free".

Yeah, you're free in America if you're a rich, white, neurotypical, conservative, Christian male.

I remember when we were in Cub Scouts, we had to listen to that ENTIRE song every time we saluted the flag

Try living in Nigeria

No, we are not perfectly free....but, in relative terms, we are quite free.

In Thailand, you can be sentenced to prison for criticizing their King.

Trump is trying to have journalists credentials taken away for reporting bad truths about him

That’s a big problem...yes. And it could lead to worse problems if not stopped.

People don’t get stopped and asked for ID and bribes here, though, on a regular basis.

They can’t arrest you just for criticizing Trump.

We’re not perfect. But in comparison to many countries, we are free as a bird.

Very true, kraftiekortie!

Having read about daily life in many countries, I am glad I live in the United States.

Barf. :eew:

Canada is no less free than the US, even if the Americans would rather pull out their own tongues than admit it.

Never noticed that before. The grammatical problem.

Trouble is that though you can be "glad to be in a particular country" , you cant really be "proud" just because you happened to have your feet in that country. You are supposed to show pride in being part of the tribe that lives in the country.

So...maybe Lee Greenwood could have written "I'm proud to be an American, 'cause at least I know I'm free".

Um, unless you're black/mexican.. then they get stopped and asked for ID all the time.. and if they happen to have money on them, it gets seized as assumed proceeds of crime and never returned - sooooo, yes, it's almost as bad as in Mexico if you're not white.

It was sort of that way in NYC in the 90s. But it’s not that way now

(Did you know that I’m married to a blank woman?)

As far as Canadians being as free as Americans goes, in Canada there is no freedom of speech nor is there freedom of the press.

Canada’s Charter of Rights guarantees freedom of the press and freedom of expression.
